I called the Crawford Peacehouse and talked with a volunteer

named Linda and a guy named John. I told them I had been watching some posters on DU and had questions about what they needed, etc.

Shuttle vans - for today they have private vehicles and rental vans. Enough for today - not sure about the weekend.

Food - A freezer has been delivered, they are expecting delivery of a refrigerator today, and have received tables and shelving to hold the overflow. Getting hot meals to Camp Casey is not possible but Cindy and others come back and forth for meals, ac, etc. and they have plenty of snack foods and sandwiches at the camp. Enough food does not seem to be an issue but keeping it refrigerated might be. They didn't say this but if they could control delivery of food it seems like it would be easier.

Ice/water - A continual need and they asked for people coming to Crawford to call from an hour out and ask what is most needed.

Press coverage - They are in a bubble and not able to follow the news and are not really aware of what is going on out here. They are, however, receiving donations and calls from all over the world.

Bottom line - give donations to the Peace House and let them buy what they need.

Mission - They are so focused and are keeping it simple - this is about Cindy and Cindy's message. They do not expect to break camp soon and are preparing for the long haul. Wish I could be there.

10. By the way, I asked Linda if they have any medical staff volunteers

on hand. She seemed surprised and said no and that it had not been necessary. Since Cindy is going to be there and in the sun for such a long time (and we heard she was sick on Wednesday) I wish some nice doctor(s) would volunteer their time. Forget volunteer - I'll pay for it.

14. To be honest - I don't think they really want to be distracted.

That is why I posted the comment they are are keeping it simple.

Those of us not there are consumed by the blogs, the media, the repugs reactions, the in-fighting. We (or least I) have read and watched everything about the Crawford Coward and Cindy.

What was so wonderful about my conversation with Linda was that it reminded me of the pure purpose of this one mother.

If you haven't felt completely connected to the cause that will do it. For me, I sent more money. It is all that I can do right now.

I sort of kept trying to get off the phone but they wanted to talk. Linda indicated they were in a momentary lull. Anyway, the people on the ground are my sheros and heros.

I just wanted to let you all know that I got really involved in politics during the '04 prez election and was so utterly disappointed when Kerry lost/was robbed/didn't fight back that I dropped out. Something about Cindy ... something about DURHAM D's post with a link to the site ... something about that simple but powerful site ... made me want to fight again. And so, I contributed. I think even though others are coming now with possibly their own agendas it won't dilute from Cindy's message for long. She is in it for long haul, and though I don't believe she will be there alone..ever....I do think it probably wouldn't make a difference to her. I believe she would stay! So people will come and go as they can and I dont think we should worry too much that Cindys message will be lost somehow in the shuffle.
