Somebody fill me in on this CIA agent -"Wilsongate" deal.
I was watching football all day yesterday, and was studying on Fri.-Sat. Is it Georgy Boy or the administration in the hot-seat?? Is this the bombshell we've been waiting for???

3. Briefly
Friday afternoon (figures) it came out that Tenet had asked for an investigation in the outting of Ambassador Wilson's wife as a CIA agent. Yesterday, a "top administration official" revealed that two people in the White House had revealed the information to six different reporters. He/she (probably Tenet) said it was obviously done to get revenge and put the squeeze on anyone else who might want to speak out as Wilson had done. These were the lead stories on the national news on Saturday and Sunday.

Yesterday, Charles Schumer (D-NY) called for an independent prosecutor. He has a news conference scheduled for 3:00 pm, no doubt to make the call again.

Looks like both Dem and Repub chairs of the House Intelligent committee are pretty upset, too.

5. bombshell
It depends on the media. They could be waking up. Even though they've been kissing Dubya's ass for three years, they'd sell him down the river for a good scandal. Scandal=ratings.

7. In a nutshell
Ambassador Joseph Wilson published an op-ed piece in the NY Times this past summer revealing that he had been asked by Cheney's office in the winter of 2002 to look into the document British agents received from Italian intelligence about Saddam looking to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger and found it to be forged. Wilson wondered why, if the administration knew the Niger documents were phony, the Bush administration continued to use them to push for the war. This was the basis of the 16 words scandal, because Bush cited the "British" info that Wilson discredited in the 2003 State of the Union address. A week or so later, Robert Novak wrote a column citing an unnamed administration official that criticized Wilson and named his wife as an undercover agent working in the underground nuclear materials market in Africa. It is a federal crime to reveal the identity of an undercover agent. This weekend, the Post revealed that the Justice Department was being pressured (by Wilson and Chuck Schumer, as well as Tenet) to identify the person who revealed Wilson's wife's identity.

8. OK, so this is tied into the "16 Words", then???
And an administration official had broken the law by citing the name of a CIA agent in a secret operation, and that agent was Wilson's wife??? Hope I got that right.

So, they still don't know who this official who broke the law is???

9. Wilson himself suspects it's Karl Rove.
And Rove has pulled this kind of shit with Novack before. He lost a job with the last Bush administration doing the same kind of thing, leaking a story to Novack in 1992.
