Are Democrats helping the right-wing cover up the true story of 9/11?

The Times report confirms once again the analysis the WSWS made within four months of 9/11 (“Was the US government alerted to September 11 attack?”). We charged then, and reiterate now, that the least plausible explanation of the September 11 tragedy is the official version: that terrorists entered the United States, obtained training at US flight schools and organized the simultaneous hijacking of four airliners, without any agency of the American government having the slightest idea what they were doing.

This new revelation only reinforces the suspicion that the tragedy of 9/11 was not the result of an “intelligence failure” or an inability to “connect the dots.” High-level officials in the state apparatus took affirmative action to protect the Al Qaeda operatives and allow them to prepare a terrorist attack. Whether they knew the full extent of what Atta and his confederates would do on September 11 can be debated, but there is no question that a terrorist outrage within the United States served the political purposes of the Bush administration.

The new right-wing government desperately needed a Pearl Harbor-style event to shift public opinion and create the conditions where it could press forward with plans—already well prepared before 9/11—for military interventions in the Middle East and Central Asia, the two largest sources for oil and gas. Bush, Cheney & Co. ruthlessly exploited 9/11 as an all-purpose justification for right-wing policies at home as well, from tax cuts for the super-rich to unprecedented attacks on democratic rights.

In response to the Times report, it is necessary to demand answers to basic questions about September 11:

* Why were known Al Qaeda members permitted to enter the United States and carry out their plans?

* Who made the decisions which facilitated the work of the terrorists and why have they not been held responsible?

* Why have the facts about September 11 been covered up, not only by the White House and the intelligence agencies, but by congressional Democrats and the American media?

I have one question that confuses me the most about what happened on 9/11. How in the hell did that plane get to the Pentagon? It's sad to think our defense were that poorly prepared; this is the same defense they sent to war?

AWEsome book by Paul Thompson. Almost EVERY article listed is, believe it or not, from a legitimate news source and no fringe websites of any kind. Asks the very hard questions about why the Pentagon wasn't defended despite NORAD and the FAA knowing flights had been hijacked for almost an HOUR. Anyone who reads that book and doesn't come away with at the VERY least believing in LIHOP, I have absolutely no hope for them.

Yes, and I too cannot STAND being labeled a "crackpot" and a "nutcase" because I choose to question the several dozen logical and flat out erroneous holes in the official 9/11 Commission story and not go lockstep into believing this laughable pile of shite. To me, wanting the full truth and an independent investigation is the best way to honor those victims of that day. That "Commission", BTW, was stacked and headed by a few Cheney/Big Oil connected Repuke cronies.

This is the two party/same corporate master system of government we're living under. Not all Dems were in on it, just as all 'Pugs weren't in on it. However I do believe that there was both bipartisan complacency as well as a bipartisan cover-up.

And I've known from the beginning that I would be labeled as a crackpot, a "conspiracy theorist". It is the same reaction that I've received for years and decades for expousing my disbelief in the Warren Report. Fortunately, I and many other dedicated and diligent researchers, along with the vast majority of American people were vindicated in our beliefs when the government officially declared the Kennedy assasination a conspiracy, even though there has never been any follow up on that in the twenty six years since that declaration.

I figure that the 911 investigation will follow the same path. Despite the threats, ridicule and other obstacles thrown in their way, a group of dedicated researchers will finally convince and unwilling government to recognize the truth years after 911. However once again the inconvience of that truth will force it to be swept under the rug after a perfuntory statement, and the matter will sink to the bottom of the American conciousness.

Here is a sentence lovingly crafted by a conspiracy theorist:

"We charged then, and reiterate now, that the least plausible explanation of the September 11 tragedy is the official version: that terrorists entered the United States, obtained training at US flight schools and organized the simultaneous hijacking of four airliners, without any agency of the American government having the slightest idea what they were doing."

Notice that without its last phrase, it is a complete denial of the notion that four planes hijacked by Islamists were the central mode of attack on 9/11, leaving the reader to imagine all sorts of alternate scenarios, from planted demolitions in the buildings, to Israeli secret agents on the planes. The last phrase -- "without " -- completely negates what the majority of the sentence seems to say. And the negating phrase is vague and weak. "Any agency of the American government" covers everyone who ever served in the military to the contracted fellow who mops the floors for a Coast Guard office in Miami. All any such person need know is "the slightest idea" of what one of the hijackers was doing. Not necessarily that they were planning to bring down the twin towers. Not even that they were planning an act of terror. Not even that they were going to do something significant. Only that they were up to something. Like overstaying their visa. Then -- lo! -- the sentence is true. While seeming to deny everything, it in fact denies almost nothing.

Whoever wrote that sentence should be working for Murdoch. ;D ;D

15. The Weldon Agenda:

1. Generate support for the national ID programs - something much, much better than having a number tattooed on your arm to be used by certain people of the U.S. against the rest of the people in the U.S. - despite claims that it is only going to be used for identifying and tracking foreigners. They must work fast on this before it is discovered that 9-11 didn't just happen.

2. Generate support for a national database the same as the Poindexter project that was (supposedly) canned.

3. To smear all of our intelligence operations except the military while avoiding saying anything against the Bush NSC.

4. Obfuscate what was done before Jan 2001 and twist what was done before Sep 2001 to hide a boatload of incriminatory facts about how the Bush administration knew and manipulated the data, the people, the public, government agencies, and foreign governments to get their 'pearl harbor'. (Capitals P and H should be saved for the genuine event.)

5. Create political points for attacking Clinton and his administration as an extra bonus and use Clinton to retain support of Clinton haters and doubters and put down Clinton's NSC at the same time.

The article referenced refreshes the involvement of Israel in this whole affair.

with the same sorts of things that she and Vanity Fair are now saying that Dennis Hastert have been involved with (corrupting their campaign financing with contributions from sources from foreign criminal individuals and organizations). What's now shown is that Dennis Hastert might have been bought off for his vote on Armenian Genocide. What still isn't being talked about is how another conspiracy might have covered up a lot of 9/11 stuff too. If there's Dems involved there, you can bet there's a bipartisan effort to keep her story from coming forth and perhaps anything that might trigger a need for her testimony. That could be what we're seeing here.
