Cindy Reports On Day 4
From Cindy's Diary on Daily Kos

The Peaceful Occupation of Iraq

Day 4
Today started at 4am when I had to get up and get ready to be on Good Morning America. It was pouring down rain at Camp Casey. The wind was blowing and there was thunder and lightening. It was pretty exciting. The interview went very well. I haven't seen it or read a transcript. Since it was taped, I am just wondering if they showed it when I said Bush doesn't want to see me because he likes to surround himself with "sycophants." I also interviewed with Randi Rhodes, Ed Schultz, Greta Van Susteran, and many others, and closed out the day with my pal, Mike Malloy.

The "first meeting" controversy died down a little today when my town's newspaper printed an op-ed that contradicted Matt Drudge's cherry-picked account of my first meeting with George.

But since they don't have that controversy, they apparently have been lying about other things. Bill O'Reilly said that I am doing this because I have been bought out by, "The Arab Anti-Discrimination League." He was telling his viewers that I am a tool for the liberals and that I am a tool for the anti-war movement. Right now, what we are doing right here in Crawford is the anti-war movement. We have such a strong coalition of groups. GSFP, Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, Military Families Speak Out and the Crawford Peace House.

I talked with John Conyers today and he wrote a letter to George signed by about 18 other Congress members to request that he meet with me. I also talked to Maxine Waters tonight and she is probably going to be here tomorrow. I am so overwhelmed by the support.

I did non-stop interviews today. 100 people came through today to visit with us. About 25 people are staying the night. More food, water, flowers, and money came through today. One father brought his 2 and 4 year old sons out to meet me and thank me for trying to save his boys from the same fate Casey suffered.

Celeste and Dante Zappala from Philadelphia and Bill Mitchell from Atascadero, Ca., all members of GSFP, came out today to support me and help me do interviews and greet all of the people who are arriving.

There is a huge action tomorrow in Aurora, Il. George Bush is leaving the ranch tomorrow to go to Aurora, Il to sign a part of the energy bill at the Caterpillar factory. True Majority has raised money to dog George Bush when he leaves the ranch. Every time he leaves, there will be a GSFP member, MFSO members, VFP members, and Code Pink members who will protest him and say "Meet with Cindy." We will not let him have a 5 week nice vacation when there are millions of people in harm's way in Iraq due to his careless policies. The people of Iraq and our soldiers are suffering. Why should George have a nice vacation?

Thank you for all your support and interest.

We are making a difference.

Keep up the good work.

3. It certainly does.
I love the way those right wing talking point pundits claim to be so pro-military and yet they smear this poor woman to death. They lie about her and they try to debase her cause. How dare they?

The Republicans can claim to be pro-military all they want, but I say we start saying we're "pro-soldier" and that the Repukes are just pro-war.

10. I'm still waiting for the
"Casey's not dead. He went AWOL." argument from the right-wingers. Then they will start smearing his military record and making up all sorts of crap about him. You know that just going after his Mom isn't enough. Casey is next. But remember, right-wingers support the troops. They have ribbons on their cars to prove it. :puke:

9. WeBeBlue is in Texas
Took her to Pdx airport last night for a redeye flight. Thanks MFSO and Code Pink!

Called me from Dallas this morning and leaving for Crawford shortly.

Her plan is to dictate messages, news, thoughts, etc. to my cell phone message mode for me to transcribe.

I'll be posting her news to DU for her. (Spouse, you know)

Leaving for work.

35. I can't wait to read her reports!
I left the PDX airport around 11:00 and went to bed at 2:00 a.m.
She arrived in Dalls 5:30 a.m. (CST) and promptly called me to say she'd arrived safely -forgetting that it was only 3:30 P.M. in Wests Coast and I'd been asleep only 90 minutes.

WeBeBlue got to Crawford around 9:00 and immediately put to work mostly taking media calls. She says anyone their is definitely "second fiddle" for the media who all want exclusive interviews and/or time with Cindy.

She says they're all frustrated but content if they can't talk directly to Cindy to get updates from the different "surrogates" returning calls, answering messages, etc. on Cindy's behalf.

Although intellectually aware of the primitive or rural environment she had entered, she was somewhat surprised when given a child's pup-tent for sleeping. Later today, with the arrival of more supporters including a larger contingent of MFSO members, she found herself the beneficiary of a larger group tent which made it more tolerable.

Apparently no or limited facilities for personal needs (she did not even mention a port-a-potty which, based on her description of what the attitude of owners of the private property might be, would be something perhaps to which they would object.

She also says that the only real face to face action is on-going dialogue with the county law enforcers and discussions about tires totally off the highway, arrest and jail time if the trespass laws are violated and the firm but respectful manner of the sheriff and his deputies.

Says that the Secret Service presence is never forgotten but that they are only seen when cars with tinted windows drive by. "You can tell who the S.S. guys are since their cars are the only ones with tinted windows.

Says tomorrow looks to be absolutely major media exposure time in terms of interviews and meetings with press.

Also confirmed the rumor of a midnight rousting(which might be happening even as I type this.)

Cindy is holding up very well and seems to be such an incredible magnet amont the group which, did not seem to number more than a maximum of 100 bodies (half of which were media folk) throughout the day.

They are for the most part functioning on news items passed to them from sources like us via cell phone and wireless gadgets. She did ask me to keep the TV on news channels and pass on any pertinent news we saw. I was interested that she had no idea about the current Bonnie and Clyde drama that temporarily upstaged most of the other news.

I got quite frustrated with two TV's playing (one on MSNBC and the other on CNN) and absolutely tired of how they were picking the Bonny and Clyde storie to detailed pieces. Almost as if you could tell they'd rather stay on that story than venture out to where they might have to do a direct or related piece on Cindy.

Anyway, one of our own is on location and despite the shock and awe of primitive rural Texas, believes she had been given a wonderful opportunity and that she is having an adventure.

I'll talk with her again in the morning.

13. Keep on the Pressure...
The way to make changes in this new fascist society we live in is to pick your battle, like Cindy did, and NEVER BACK DOWN.

Keep on the pressure, 24/7, get as much media attention as possible, never apologize when you're right, spread the word, and don't feel "guilty" about your actions and feelings when the righties come to smear you.

It should be clear by now how the neocons think, and what their strategy is. It's the same as Goering's:

"Voice or no voice the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."--Hermann Goering

PREDICTABLE.

You have to expect that if you disagree with the fascists in power, they'll attack you. It's par for the course.

14. bull sized ones
Finally someone with bull-sized gonads takes on this sadistic little turd in the white house. May this mushroom into a huge and endless Freedom March. Already the Pentagon is attempting to upstage it by advertising a freedom march of their own complete with country music and the like on the mall in Washington. It should be faced down and demonstrated.

16. The more I read the words of Cindy Sheehan, and watch her actions
the more I am convinced that the loss of Casey Sheehan was the loss of a potentially very great man for this country.

All loss of life is tragic in war, but some would have gone on to live "normal" or "average" lives. I think Casey might very well have gone on to be a great, inspirational leader of sorts.

This is bush's greatest sin. He is killing the potential of a generation.

17. If Casey was anything like his mom, what a loss
OTOH, we are also losing all moral authority we have as a nation.

We are violating our own principles by waging a war of agression and locking up dissenters in the process.

24. I'm glad so many people are supporting her. Rep. Conyers has
a downloadable copy of his phone conversation with Cindy and his interview with Ed Schultz most of it about Cindy on http://www.conyersblog.us/

I am sorry to hear that Cindy is ill. Being treated like garbage, forced to walk in a ditch with fire ants, the roads are paid for with taxpayer money, that really burns me that the sheriff told Cindy and her companions that if they walked on a public road instead of a ditch they could come any closer to "Great Caesar's" ghost. or the new Kaiser.

I am worried for Cindy out in the heat and then the rain and was glad to read that someone brought a huge pavilion to put over the sleeping tents or that Cindy and her friends would have been soaked. That Bush is doing this to a mother of a man he sent to die for his super-wealthy oil and war profiteering buddies is showing THE WHOLE WORLD including those who really supported the troops and who used to support bush based on his lies what he really is - that quote from Kissinger about US soldiers being "just dumb animals" to be sacrificed for the state is shown in bush's actions towards the veterans by cutting their benefits and sending soldiers into harms way without armor or canteens that they have to buy themselves.

Keep beating the drum for getting the Bush criminals arrested, tried and behind bars where they belong.

it was a golden opportunity for Laura Bush to step up and she failed miserably IMO. Also because women in the audience supposedly shouted (essentially) "tough, he volunteered." Women, mothers - sigh.

I actually see "medicated" when I look at her. Being married into the BFEE with Barbara for a mother-in-law would probably drive most to some heavy-duty Rx's. She was a pro-choice, Methodist Democrat at one time, wasn't she?
