Important catch-phrase for 2006 - RUBBER STAMP, RUBBER STAMP, RUBBER STAMP
No one should want to be represented by a brainless RUBBER STAMP for all of BushCo's disastrous policies.

Republicans like to call it loyalty and party discipline. No longer will that get a pass. The Hackett race showed how easily we can turn that around and bang them over the head with it - even the "moderate" Republicans are essentially RUBBER STAMPS for BushCo and Tom Delay.

I was reading a Diary on Daily Kos where this theme was reappearing.

The second response was posted by a new Democratic Candidate for NY's 29 Congressional District:

"Rubber stamp... (4.00 / 2)

...I"m really starting to like the use of that term. Serving party over people. Doing what's best for the right while voting against constituent issues.

I say it's HIGH time we turn the republican's lock step mentality against them in the minds of the voters.

The GOP Love the soldiers like they love children: Seen but not heard.

My opponent .... (4.00 / 2)

has rubber stamped virtually every piece of legislation that Tom Delay has put on the table and the people of the 29th are sick of it. We get lots of feedback on this. Thanks,

Eric

Rubber stamp.... (none / 1)

Yes, it worked well for Hackett. I had a Republican on the phone in Ohio who was a friend of Jean Schmidt's. She told me that she and her entire family were voting for Hackett because Schmidt was nothing but a "rubber stamp" for Bush. Nobody wants to vote for a rubber stamp.

1. Rubber Stamp is the word
It worked for Mary Landrieu in the '02 Senate race and it can work for others.

3. You've got to be kidding
When I voted for her the first time around, she was a moderate Dem -- much like every other Senator from LA in recent memory. I didn't lover her, but she hasn't really surprised me either.

haven't liked all of her votes but her voting record is no where near the type of rubber stamp record that even Chafee, Snowe, Collins and Specter have done.

IMO who a Senator votes for for Majority Leader is their most important vote right now.

Until we control the House or the Senate, there will never be any investigations into or accountability for BushCo and the Republicans.

My point is focused on Democrats winning in 2006.

5. Good point. They want the dems to rubber stamp everything as well.
Merely mentioning the phrase should beg the question of whether further inspection is necessary.

6. Good Idea
We really need to use it against some of the so called moderate republicans.

blue districts and states. I think this works.

I live in Jim Leach's district. He is probably one of the better Republicans BUT if he is a vote for Hastert and Tom Delay for House Leadership then NO DEMOCRAT should vote for him.

There are too many Democrats voting for Republicans in blue districts. We need a strategy to strongly go after these seats. We need a strong argument for why Independents and moderate Republicans should vote for the Democrat.

Restoring CHECKS AND BALANCES needs to be part of the argument because Congress has COMPLETELY abdicated its responsibility.

GOP = Party over Country, they refuse to uphold their duty as members of Congress.

Congress is now a Rubber Stamp for the Bush Administration.

7. Use it within the candidates' names:
Dennis (Rubber Stamp) Hastert, Peter (Rubber Stamp) King, etc.
Also, we could collate voting records to announce that the candidate has "rubber stamped" the Bush Administration 90% (or whatever) of the time.

10. I tried to find that information (re Mary Landrieu). I think
Congressional Quarterly does that but you have to be a subscriber to access it. However, I haven't yet checked to see if Bug Me Not would work on it.

18. Link them as closely to Bush as possible and watch them TRY
to squirm away.

It should make for some entertaining moments, if nothing more.

Hammer it home.

19. It even works where there's a Dem incumbent:
The challenger could be challenged to defend the Bush war, budgetary and privacy policies, and if he/she does, then be labelled "Rubber Stamp".
Where there are Republican incumbents, IMHO the DCCC should take the complete list of House and Senate votes for the last 2, 4 and 6 years, together with the positions of the administration on each vote, and then develop a "rating" for each Republican incumbent.
