16. She was great!
Wolfie let her speak, didn't interrupt or rush her or anything.
She was wonderful, articulate, and heartbreaking all at the same time.
I'm hoping she can help "connect" some of those "disconnected" just because she is out there, speaking, not giving up, hounding Dimson.
Kicked and recommended.

17. If Paul Hackett was smart...
...he'd be over there assisting this poor woman and her supporters, because Bush obviously won't agree to meet her. He's too busy playing Dukes of Hazzard with smaller heads of state in his pickup truck. Paul Hackett needs to be in Texas right now, just like Max Cleland and Wes Clark traveled to Ohio to help him with his campaign.

21. I thought of Hackett, too
He's an Iraq veteran, he needs to be there. It wouldn't be spun as 'just politics' with him there as it might be for some non-veteran (of this conflict) politicians. Maybe Junior's treatment of her this weekend will kick-start Hackett's involvement. I hope.

19. Great quote from the updated AP story
''If he doesn't come out and talk to me in Crawford, I'll follow him to D.C.,'' she said. ''I'll camp on his lawn in D.C. until he has the courtesy and the integrity and the compassion to talk to somebody whose life he has ruined.'' :applause:

29. Exactly
Cindy Sheehan has a diary on Daily Kos and here's the link:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/7/171338/7578#138

I've posted to it and the support she's getting from the online community and the coverage she's getting from the MSM (who, obviously, is treating this not as an indictment of the war as much as a mere human interest story) is incredible.

30. Bush is in a lose-lose situation.
If he meets with her, what can he do? What can he possibly say to her that will be sufficient? He's not pulling the troops out, and he's not going to be able to justify his war and her son's death. So, he meets her and can't say anything constructive and looks like a cad.

If he doesn't meet with her, he still looks like a cad.

Soldier's mom digs in near Bush ranch
Senator sees 'echoes of Vietnam' in vigil to meet president

snip>
The president -- who is spending a nearly five-week-long working vacation at his Texas ranch -- said in a speech Wednesday that the sacrifices of U.S. troops were "made in a noble cause." (Full story)

Sheehan said she found little comfort in his comments.
....
Sheehan elicited sympathy from both sides of the political spectrum on Sunday.

"What you're seeing with that mom trying to meet with President Bush is echoes of Vietnam," said Sen. Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat. "Because no one is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel."

"I think the president ought to meet with this mother," said Sen. George Allen, a Virginia Republican. "What I would say to her is her son will always be remembered as a great hero and a patriot, advanced freedom in Iraq and the Middle East, has made this country more secure."

Boxer said her own message would be different: "I would tell her to do everything she could to spare other families this grief, to get us off this cycle of violence."
