DHMO: Highly toxic, corrosive to metal and could be in your home!
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 12:47 PM by Modem Butterfly
Jesus people. This stuff is corrosive to metal and highly toxic to humans and animals. It's a common ingredient in many poisons and even some common cleansers. I don't know about you folks, but I'll be checking the label on every bottle under the kitchen sink tonight!

http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

Edited to add: It's also been linked to certain cancers!

:scared:

58. Why don't you propose a ban on hydrogen peroxide, chlorax ,
rubbing alcohol, and acetic acid (vinegar) at the same time? This is a simple chemical compund, likely found in tumor (cancer) biopsies because of the CANCER eating up normal surrounding healthy tissue...not DUE to this chemical. It's a chemical byproduct of water and oxygen metabolism, like H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide), OH- (hydroxyl anion), OH. (hydroxyl radical), and singlet oxygen. Of course its used as a preservative; much like vinegar. If you consumed huge quantities of vinegar or hydrogen peroxide, what do you suppose your reaction to that would be?

7. What a strange list of "uses"
*in cult rituals

*by the Church of Scientology on their members and their members' families (although surprisingly, many members recently have contacted DHMO.org to vehemently deny such use)

*by both the KKK and the NAACP during rallies and marches,

*by pedophiles and pornographers (for uses we'd rather not say here),

*by the clientele at a number of homosexual bath houses in New York City and San Francisco,

*historically, in Hitler's death camps in Nazi Germany, and in prisons in Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Libya, Iraq and Iran,

*in World War II prison camps in Japan, and in prisons in China, for various forms of torture,

*by the Serbian military as authorized by Slobodan Milosevic in their ethnic cleansing campaign,

*by many terrorist organizations,

*in community swimming pools to maintain chemical balance,

*by software engineers, including those producing DICOM software SDKs,

*in animal research laboratories, and

*in pesticide production and distribution.

According to the people that run the DHMO site you linked, DHMO has been used by everyone from Satan to Hitler to your local pedophile. It is hard to think of a single evil event or person throughout history that they have not linked DHMO to. It is clearly the Kaiser Sose of chemical compounds!

...there's bound to be some 'interesting' substances found in that eventually too.

The big commercial farmers use all kinds of crap on their produce and they feed antibiotics and hormones to their cows - so all that crap is in the beef and dairy you eat. All this is one (there are others) reason I'm vegetarian/almost vegan though like I said, some of this 'interesting' type crap is bound to be found in those type foods too (tofu?).

Ick.

34. I Agree the Stuff is Probably Dangerous
but I don't think that website is very explicit. It lists some very peculiar (to say the least) uses for the stuff but stops short of saying in what way it is used. Some nebulous references in my opinion. Notably it offers signs and symptoms of what to watch for if you think you've been exposed. A few of those symptoms can be caused by a number of other ailments, and I don't think you can "watch" for electrolyte disturbances in your serum sodium levels. I think you'd need some blood work and if it was abnormal, your doctor would see it. (The picture of the little ambulance racing along was a bit much.) I'm sure it's a harmful additive of some sort - most are. I just didn't think the website was terribly credible.

It's use is not banned by the UCI or IOC, though. Sammy Sosa uses it, too.

I just found a news article about the little town in California that almost banned styrofoam cups because of DHMO.

And about how DHMO is actually another chemical name for H2O.

So, yeah, it's corrosive to metal and it is in our homes. And it does cause erosion. And it is common in lakes and streams.
