How to win in "06 ".....
okay this is not rocket science....

very simple.

1. Define, define and define your agenda until it hurts.
No more pie in the sky bullshit. No more. Got it?

Nature abhors a vacuum and the cons take advantage of this dreamy-eyed pie in the sky bullshit.

get a grip and follow through. Easy shit.

2. Dont waste your energy on bullshit politics ( a la Rove )theyre probably laughing their asses off right now...it really looks desperate and petty. Shit always comes to the surface with or without your help. Its the American way, they will drown in their own shit , move on and focus...rise above the game.

3. Stay on course. the biggest weakness of this party are ( and its biggest strenghts) are its many diverse voices. Utilize that strength...do not let the message become diluted it or let it become chaotic.The pubes prey on this this and so would I ( if I was one .)
Stay on message.

2. Welcome to DU! I love it.
Usually I am not a big fan of short, concise "this is what we need to do!" threads (i am a hypocrite - my threads are longwinded, pretentious "this is what we need to do!" threads) but yours is awesome. Although I give a little more weight to twisting the knife of Rove around a bit than you do, I agree wholeheartedly with your post. Yes, some of us ( I am to blame also) get really overly exuberant as to the political fallout of the muckracking and gotcha politics of "Blogistan" we have to keep our eyes on the prize and remember who decides elections... the average voter.

3. thanks but keep it simple
everybody is on the go nowadays...keep shit simple and stay on course.

The minute you go off on tangent youre accused of lookin desperate.

Or looking kooky.

The repubes are masters of manipulation.

But in a vacuum the people will go with someone who has vision. We need laser vision.Not 10 visions

ONE VISION.

LASER.

4. this is relevant today:
quote from W B Yeats:

W.B Yeats

Slouching Towards Bethlehem

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert.

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Yeah isn't that funny....just ignore how the Republicans are completely out of the mainstream, and a bunch of crooks to boot.

How could we ever win by pointing out that the people who have power are fascists and fucking up the country?

Calling Rove bullshit politics is like saying Watergate was bullshit : "third rate burglary"

It's the corruption stupd!

Corruption transcends ideology. It's a winner.

10. Agreed. If its all negative, they can say...
...we're just mad we lost in 2004.

One of our messages should be:

"We support working Americans. We oppose CAFTA. What's my republican running mate's position on this issue?"

And then tell the story of how CAFTA was passed.

12. That can't be the only thing.
Opposition is good, but when the only thing offered is opposition, it can easily be turned into obstructionism. And for many people, hearing repeated claims that Dems are nothing more than obstructionists lays a cold blanket of negativity over the party.

Certainly get out there and say "We oppose CAFTA," but then immediately follow it with a solid, easy to understand plan for how the party would instead help the American worker. Relate the two, the opposition and the plan, over and over and over again.

The plan is what resonates with voters, not merely the opposition. I think that was the huge problem in 2004. "We hate Bush!" became the most prominent message, and what the party was actually for took a back seat. It was back asswards, IMHO.

13. Quit thinking inside this DU and political junkie bubble.
The average voter never heard of CAFTA... but they know about kickbacks and they will bite onto the culture of corruption tied to republicans only doing for thier elite corporate sugar daddies.

Issues don't sell. How many people know what bush has done? They don't care to know.

Keep it simple stupid.

15. calling the Republicans evil didn't work for us in 04,
because we failed to put together a cohesive plan. we spent soooo much time talking about how evil W was, and not enough on how Kerry would be better.

Let's talk about what we WILL do, not what they DID. People don't like being called "stupid" for past votes.

7. They're pro-torture, pro-treason flunkies whose allegiance is to big money
Say it like it is, baby: they're liars. They'd kill their mothers if they didn't need the inheritance.

The House is the target, and they all should be characterized as stooges sucking up to power for advancement. Their loyalty isn't to the United States, it's to the Republican Party and personal greed.

They're fraud-loving, treasonous torture-bots who serve only the interests of unchecked power.

If they weren't criminals, they wouldn't fight verifiable voting.

They're also fools and can't get anything right; this is pathetic and ultimately disastrous.

Big Time!

No mirrors...Just the people's votes...But, that's not going to happen...They are working to assure that each and every day that goes by.

Via the bullshit, "Help America Vote Act" (more republican owned electronic voting machines) pushed through by the republicans, in 2002.
