Finally watched Santorum on Daily Show - I have two things to say
1. Jon Stewart just let him talk - Santorum hung himself. Stewart didn't have to even respond or question him. He is so wacked in his ideas that anyone watching with half a brain could see that.

2. Santorum naming his book "It Takes A Family" is not only a diss of Hillary's book (and an ancient saying - it takes a village to raise a child) he advocates the "village" deciding for the "family" things like who can be married, how to conduct themselves, who to sleep with, what schools to send their kids to, etc.

If you think the family is so important Senator, then let the family make these decisions THEMSELVES!!! You have no business meddling in anyone elses life!

He is a total moran. I could barely contain myself trying to listen to his completely fucked up view of society.

1. Exactly
I agree. Santorum knew he wasn't on a rightwing show too so he tried to play it "cool" and "hip" and he said he wrote the book because next year he has an important election coming up. Which is probably why he was on the Daily show. :eyes: I think he's a lame-o.

2. Didja notice when he said we should "legislate the ideal?"
Like you, I saw Jon as just "hanging back" and letting Little Ricky's own words out of his own mouth define him and his ilk.

And Ricky can't think outside of the box or outside his script.

3. Yep
Jon tried to talk to him about things but he kept going back to his talking points. I think Jon finally got that he wasn't getting through him and just let him spew his crap. I think Jon even said on the show he couldn't get through to him and the only thing they agreed on was about ice cream. :eyes:

4. Still wish that Stewart did not interrupted him in mid sentence
to add his own muddled saying.

Stewart is not a good interviewer. He mumbles a lot until he can formulate a question and he cut his guest in the middle - done this with Woodward and Bernstein that really bothered me. Trying to get to many things in 8 minutes. He really should start with one concise question and let his guests talk. If he does want to say something in the middle he should be clear and concise, yes, even prepare ahead of time.

Too often he cuts into his guests and both are talking together just like... Tucker Carlson and the others on the late Crossfire.

23. *pinches the bridge of his nose*
Apparently, you weren't paying enough attention when his appearance put the last nail in Crossfire's coffin.

"You're on CNN! The show leading into mine is puppets making crank phone calls! What is wrong with you?!"

The tragedy of all this is that people are starting to look upon Jon Stewart as a last bastion of good journalism, when he's a comedian with an exceedingly dry sense of humor. Jon himself understands this, which is where the above comment came from. If you want a good, in-depth, serious interview, bitch at the media outlets for becoming the sensationalistic, all-flash no-sizzle pieces of crap they are; don't hang Jon for doing what he's always done.

39. Of course he is a comedian. And my favorite are the first few minutes
of the show - where he just shows clips of news and let them speak for themselves.

But if he is going to have a guest on the show - whether Paris Hilton or Zell Miller or Rick Santorum - let them talk! Give them long enough rope to hang themselves, if needed. But to have someone and then to keep cutting them, this was the hallmark of Bryant Gumble, I think. A good host let his guests talk with an occasional comment to clarify as he did a bit with Santorum and with Bernard Goldberg: you mean the 50s with bigotry and segregation were better times than now?

How many laws does this guy want to make about our lives anyway? Especially scary after hearing he said its OK for the government to not allow women to use birth control. (Apparantly he said that on Aaron Brown's show yesterday.)

edited for spelling.

Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 02:36 PM by sjr5740
I think John has trouble getting some of the RWers because he leans to the left and his show makes fun of * all the time. Although I believe he would make fun of any administration as he says he highlights the lunacy of the process and * is in office (sic) right now so he is the target. But the wingnut interpret this as hostility. When Bill Kristol was on (sic) he kept giving JS a hard time about how TDS was part of the "liberal media." But I digress. I have watched TDS for a while and John is consistently softer on the wingnuts. I think this is because they are so thin skinned and he has a hard enough time getting them anyway so part of the deal is the softball interviews. I still think Jon's softball interviews are more in depth than anything you see on any other cable news show.

On a different note I was at Newmax this morning (don't ask why) and it sez that Santorum won't run for president. What a loss we'd wipe the floor with his ass!! I don't even think he'll be in the senate for too much longer....

I am sorry to dirty up DU with this link but here it is...

25. Imagine My Surprise, there is a great freeper picture
A freeper is trying to counter-protest and he has a sign that says, "Get a brain, Morans."

That is why we use morans instead of morons. I can't find the picture but it is simply hilarious.

Also, you might want to be a little less, um, critical. We all make spelling mistakes.

Anyway, here is a belated welcome to DU: :hi:

Santorum was so slow on the uptake and then so stunned at how quickly Jon's zinger got by him and not the audience. His jaw flapped about six times like a guppy that jumped out of the tank and wondered how it got there.

37. Wasn't that great!
The "gambling" went right over his virtuous head.
Blaming it on the pop culture & media.

Stewart pointed out that back when segregation was at its peak, the country was extremely religious and uptight so perhaps culture can't even be an indication on virtue.

Here's where Rickie put his foot in his mouth, he starts talking about equal rights......

This is the genius on Jon Stewart. He sets the RW up. They should never go on his show thinking they can outsmart him.

On a personal note SiouxJ...

Don't you just love playing frizzbee with your dogs? What kind of dogs are they? Herding type? Do you use the nylon cloth frizzbees?

I sometimes wish Jon would call his right wing guests on their crap with the same aggression and conviction he showed during his now "legendary" Crossfire appearance. I want to see these suckers squirm like the worms they are. He lets these nut jobs off the hook way too frequently IMHO.
