One thing I have to hand to Fitzgerald, he builds one hell of a team.

Take down Fitz and his entire team is still in place.

This weak attempt by the REpukes to start casting doubt on the prosecutor this late in the game is just that, weak. It'll go nowhere and will only make him focus even more at on the business at hand. It may even backfire to a large degree and cause him to cast his net further and wider than he had previously cast it because it demonstrates collusion to commit obstruction.

That's desperation, son. I love the smell of desperation in the morning.

Smells like...

4. Walt, what about the possibility
of the Senate giving Rove and others immunity to testify? Could that screw up the investigation?

10. It doesn't seem likely there is any motivation for that
is there?

I mean, Fitz is tying this up with a big blue ribbon. He's got the goods, I figure.

3. You are right.
There are some silly comments about Gonzales "firing" Fitzgerald going around. That can't happen. Bush could, but he would put himself in checkmate by doing so.

6. Too late, too sketchy and too bad. Ha. Fitzgerald dots his I's and
crosses his T's. Love the gossip though...they're stretching.
Any action against Fitzgerald would scream "Saturday Night Massacre" for those who remember Watergate.

12. I followed the Gotti prosecutions closely.
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 08:26 PM by Walt Starr
Nobody ever thought the Teflon Don would go down. Fitzgerald brought hiim down.

I followed the blind sheik prosecution pretty closely. Fitzgerald made it a slam dunk.

I watched Fitzgerald take down George Ryan when nobody thougt he would come close to being involved in that mess.

And I've been following closely two very similar cases Fitzgerald is investigating currently. The Bush regime and the Daley machine. It's clear to me that Daley is going down and Bush is going down.

Fitzgerald follows a case wherever it leads.

These assholes never saw him coming.

If Patrick Fitzgerald ever decided t run for anything, he'd have my vote because there is one thing he has that all the bastards he's investigated over the years lacked.

Integrity.

22. Walt, I've got a question for you
I don't know if you can answer it and I hope you don't think it is silly.

It is possible that Fitz will ask for an extension. It wouldn't surprise anyone. Investigations like this always turn up new leads and evidence to look into.

My question is this. Could he hand down an indictment or make a charge before the investigation is done? Can he go along, find an absolute cause for a charge but continue on? Or, must it be completed, a report written up and then any and all charges made?

24. IT all depends upon his case and what he has
M expectation if he asks for an extension is to continue letting Judith Miller stew.

If he hands down only one indictment and does not dismiss the grand jury my expectation is he'll hand down an indictment against Judith Miller for criminal contempt and obstruction. Then go down the line at the end of the investigation and indict everybody else.

35. OK, that sounds very plausable...but
What do you see happening with her possibly naming Bolton (as her source) at about the same time * is naming him as well (as UN Ambassador). It makes for interesting speculation on this facet of this whole investigation.

9. The BFEE is fucking with the wrong guy. They should have cut their losses
and thrown Rove and Libby overboard. But like the smartest guys in the room at Enron, they find it hard to face reality, and think all that's needed is one more lie, one more smear, one more coverup, and everything will be o.k. again.

11. The Repubs are really desperate.
Apparently they are trying to scare Rockefeller, Durban and another Democrat with accusations of their having leaked a secret and now Roberts wants either to intimidate Fitzgerald, distract him and his investigatory team or incapacitate Fitzgerald by forcing him to make his work public before he is ready to do so. I bet Bush has never been this worried in his life. In knew this thing was big, but it must be even huger than I thought.

.... "Senator" Roberts! Please, oh Please do begin your investigation of Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald. Do it now! Do it quick! Turn up the heat on good old "Fitz."

I can't think of anything more that a Special Prosecutor enjoys, respects, and invites is to have the targets of his investigation use a witless, dumb-ass like yourself, Senator, to do their spear carrying in attempt to bring that Special Prosecutor down.

There's not a super-computer built that could do the word processing fast enough in that Prosecutor's office for the ensuing indictments to be typed.

Oh, and do continue your investingation into CIA and its designation and management of covert agents.

Those are reeeeeallllly verrrry friendly people to have as your enemy.

So, go for it you vile piece of GOP scum. In fact, I'm sure that if you applied for a grant for your activities from any number of progressive organizations, they would cut the checks in a New York minute to help you along.

You dumbass.

they look *scared*. Weeks of failed spinning, one excuse after another... and then they suddenly go into "smear the prosecutor" mode. It looks desperate and criminal.

This is a seriously stupid move.

26. They don't have to take Fitzgerald down.
Roberts' investigation only has to dusty up the air, and divert resources from Fitzgerald's investigation until the clock runs out (in October, I believe).
