Dean issues statement re: Wilson/CIA Story
Governor Dean Calls For Accountability

BURLINGTON -- In response to news that the CIA has asked for a Justice Department investigation into allegations that the White House revealed the identity of one of its undercover employees in violation of federal law and in retaliation against the woman's husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, Governor Howard Dean issued the following statement:

"I applaud the CIA's request that the Justice Department investigate the Plame affair. I urge the Justice Department to investigate the matter swiftly and objectively, without the taint of partisan politics that have so plagued this Administration's conduct of foreign policy.

Have to say that since last night, when this story broke, many people on the blog called for Gov. Dean to make a statement on this. Further evidence that the campaign is listening to the people. Go Dean!

1. I agree
Give them hell Howard!!!

I hope all the other candidates come out (or have already have) with similar statements. The more unified we are, the more likely they can't sweep it under the rug.

2. Watch the Sunday talk shows
see if this comes up. It's sure to.

This is just another example of the crimes of this administration. But this time they crossed the CIA, which was a big mistake.

3. Yes! This is Huge and I'm glad Dean made his statement
on it!

"President Bush came into office promising to bring honor and integrity to the White House. Instead, the President took us to war on what appears to be false pretenses and is now using every means possible to obfuscate that fact. If the allegations are true, someone within this Administration has sought retribution against a former U.S. diplomat who sought only to bring truth to an otherwise murky situation by revealing the identity of his wife, an undercover analyst. This is a very serious charge. If it is true, they have gone way beyond petty retribution - they have undermined a key national security tenet and violated two federal laws."

8. Here's how to help give this one LEGS!
We need to alert our congress and senate people that this is a HUGE issue and a crime! Each of us ABSOLUTELY, URGENTLY NEEDS TO CALL OUR REPRESENTATIVES!!!!!

Get their numbers, either locally or in Washington, by starting at www.congress.org. The directory section will help you find the necessary details.

And/or call MY guy, Henry Waxman of West Los Angeles. He's been on this for weeks!

In Washington: (202) 225 - 3976

In L.A. (323) 651 - 1040

Waxman listens. And responds with action. And his staffers are right in lockstep with him, very well-informed, and as outraged as we are. GO FOR IT!!!

If the folks in Congress think we don't give a damn, they won't either. Now is the time to amplify tne drum beat!

9. We are lucky to have Waxman on our side
I agree, everyone should do this! Turn it up!

Writing letters may be the most effective way.

11. A few on his blog this morning asked for this
When the campaign is this responsive, it is so exciting. I've never seen anything like this before.

*Noting, of course, he *has* addressed the issue before in the 16 questions paper shortly after allegations surfaced.
