Poll question: How would you characterize the statement made by my W-stika?
My liberal wife thinks it's extreme and offensive. Obviously, I see it differently, or I would not of produced it.

8. ok, so...
we should not point out that fascism is here and that the fascists are running the country until the victims reach the 6,000,000 mark?

Only Jews qualify?

Can we start at 100,000?

We are there.

13. Good point. George Bush: He's Not Hitler (yet)
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 09:14 AM by IanDB1
At some point, even Hitler wasn't Hitler yet.

To paraphrase Jon Stewart, "If the best you can say about someone is that they're not as bad as Hitler, then you're really raising the bar."

18. I'm sorry, but
I simply don't consider the Bush = Hitler comparison valid. That there is creeping fascism in this country would be absurd to deny, but when you conjure the Nazis with symbols, you conjure up a lot more than mere fascism. It's not in the least "succinct".

16. Show it to someone who isn't "into politics"
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 10:12 AM by skids
But don't explain what the "W" stands for.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine for tooling around DU and other political sites, because people will get it. Among the less adroit, though, it could be construed as "I'm a Bush supporting neonazi" or just "I'm a neonazi that likes the letter W for some reason."

It could use some clarifying text, embedded in the image. Another escape route would be to degrade the swastika somehow to portray it in an uncomplementory light, like having it covered in blood.

(And the suggestion of "Bush: Not hitler... yet" could be what you need to defray criticisms that a direct equivalency is being drawn, a hypersensitivity point for the ADL.)

6. People who already agree with you will love it
People who don't already agree with you might well be offended. Depends on whether you are interested in persuasion or not.

7. I believe it's more a comment on the use of symbols than a Nazi
inference. Have you ever seen more symbols in your life than all these stupid "dubya" stickers?

Like he's a franchise.

10. I heard a great joke this morning, comparing Bush to Hitler
"Its totally unfair....Hitler was a great public speaker!"

I almost drove off the f*cking road.

11. Is it truly effective?
If your trying to influence those individuals who don’t necessarily believe as you do, then your doing nothing more than pushing our concerns (outrage) further from the mainstream that is America. The media and right-wingers point to extremism as representative to the party as a whole. When in reality such views are representative of an isolated segment within our population. Middle of the road Americans will look at that symbol and say, “what of bunch of nuts”. The validity behind the statement (symbol) is lost. Just my opinion… Nice work though...

12. I wonder if White Supremacist Republicans will embrace it without irony?
I know you created it to make an anti-bush statement.

But I also wonder if it will be adopted by pro-bush nazis.

Not only are bush and the neocons clearly fascists, but the bush family actually has ties to the third reich.

20. Let me tell you what I saw yesterday in my town...
An older little Ford truck driven by a fast-approaching retirement age couple, they had fashioned "Wsux" on the rear window with mail-box letters. Things are pretty damn bad when people start doing stuff like that around here. Your Wastikas fine with me. :)
