my folks are retired and are lifelong yellow dog democrats. they are also born again christians. and they keep up with the news and politics. they hate bush with a passion, and they'll discuss any bush atrocity at length and in detail.

but over the last four years when i speak of my opinions about 9/11, the conversation usually drifts somewhere else. when i told them on 9/12 who i thought did it, they respectfully refused to discuss it.

but now my mother has changed her mind, probably because my dad's been putting two and two together. the other night we were discussing politics and she's concluded that all the mysterious and secretive bullshit that bush is up to points to 9/11.

but she couldn't actually say it aloud, or put it into words. it was more of a look, and body language that i recognized as the look of realization and gravity. i told her i'm one of these people who doesn't hate to say i told you so.

she then concluded that any american who could do that to other americans (theoretically) is capable of ANYTHING. i reminded her that if they lie about war, they lie about every damn thing else, and she agreed.

make no mistake, i'm not the wisest man in the world and i don't profess to know exactly what happened that day, and all i can do is state my opinion. i've always been cynical and jaded and pessimistic, but to see it happening to my mother the rock is stunning.

3. It is very difficult to come around to that point of view.
Especially for older people who have experienced a different American fantasy than some of the rest of us. Older people are more difficult to fool, though, for very long.

It is so difficult to say the word, coup.

4. it's uncomfortable for a lot of folks
i would think, cuz we will never be sure to what extent the moron and crew were involved; but we just know they had there scummy hands in it. It's an admission that the good concept of america that we had in our heads is an illusion now. It's a brave and sad stance, especially when we get no legislative love currently in congress. Tough times

5. There have been many revelations since that day...
I consider it impossible NORAD was distracted and the Pentagon partially destroyed without inside help.

6. Good for your mom!

If my dad was still alive-he passed away 4 years ago, I've no doubt he would have suspected it right away. He always used to say that they-those in power in D.C.-were ALL a bunch a crooks. He was right with just a couple of exceptions like Conyers and Boxer.

My dh, on the other hand, has been sort of skeptical until he started reading the September 11th Forum which I recently made our home page. Since it's been "tucked away" on DU, I decided I wanted it front and center so that I could see it every time I logged onto the internet. :)
