Not to be diverted by the business of vetting the Supreme Court nominee, the U.S. Senate Democratic Policy Committee (DPC) and the U.S. House Government Reform Committee Minority announced that they will conduct a joint hearing on Friday to “examine the national security to examine the national security implications of disclosing the identity of a covert intelligence officer”. The hearing will be co-chaired by Senate DPC Chairman Byron Dorgan (D-ND), and U.S. Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-CA), the Ranking Member of the House Government Reform Committee.

Former intelligence officers and analysts will discuss the impact of such disclosures, and have stated in a letter to the leadership that public statements thus far “reveal an astonishing ignorance of the intelligence community and the role of cover.”

Dorgan is very impressive in his demeanor and ability to present facts in a rational nonpartisan fashion while being very hard hitting against the Bush administration's failures, so this should be good.
