"This newspaper has never been, and will never be pro-abortion"
Editorial, Sun Herald, Biloxi, MS.

This newspaper has never been and, we hope, will never be pro abortion

On Monday, the Sun Herald published a column by Ellen Goodman of the Boston Globe concerning the career of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. In Goodman's opinion, O'Connor's finest moments on the nation's highest court occurred when she was defending the court's decision in Roe vs. Wade, which made abortion legal across the nation.

As sometimes happens, a reader took the publication of a column as an indication of the Sun Herald's position on a subject. In this case, abortion.

snip/

As for the concerns of this particular reader, the most recent editorial we wrote on abortion dealt with the procedure often described as partial-birth abortion, a procedure we still consider to be horrendous, abhorrent and justifiable only if there is no other way to save the life of the mother.

As for abortion in general, we profoundly regret that it has become, for far too many women and men, a remedy for carelessness and a substitute for more responsible means of birth control.

While we appreciate that there are circumstances that necessitate abortion in some cases, we cannot imagine any circumstances that would make us proponents of abortion.

1. No circumstance?
What about if you or a woman in your life is brutally raped and it results in pregnancy?

Or do you think rape is always the woman's fault?

6. Remember it's a red state
They think of women much as Sharia does. I'm sure they are glad that W had better sense than nominate a "lowly" woman. He might have gotten another O'Connor who stood up for women's rights.

2. What is going on in the world?
The baby is a symbionte and there are times likes (god forbid) like rape, death or paralysis resulting in child birth that abortion is a moral alternative. I am sick of the msm portraying dubyas belief system as the be all and end all path to christianity.

7. A friend of mine of raped at 12 years old
coming home from school. This was a long time ago. She had psychological problems for years afterwards. It took her a very, very long time before she could trust or have any relationship with a man. In those days, everything was "hushed" up, as if the rape was HER fault. Yes, even for a pre teen. There was no counseling done then.

I can only imagine the horror if that poor girl had become pregnant and was forced to have a rapist's baby. I seriously do not think she would have lived through it. From what I knew of her, she would have killed herself first.

8. In the old days if a mom was unwed
My parents told me that they would ship said child off to live with relatives in a different part of the state. And raise as an adoptive child. Talk about dubya's religion.

3. Gawd is that sexist crap.
Yep, those lazy, careless women. How insulting. They just can't imagine huh? How about when a man rapes a woman, resulting in impregnation? Guess the dumb bitch should just be punished even further huh? After all she must have been careless to get raped. :sarcasm:

I loathe those people.

Of the Mississippi Chamber of Commerce, which is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the right hand of the RNC, donating to RNC funding candidates, paying for the ads of the fundie candidates and just doing the fundie's bidding.

The old editor was replaced a year or so ago, this is a conservative replacement.

10. That's my local paper.
I never read that rag. The local tv station (WLOX) is just as bad. See why I get my news from the internet?

12. Wow--why don't they tell us how they really feel?
:eyes:

So nice to see papers maintaining objectivity in their reporting practices.

13. Until men can get pregnant they will never fucking understand.
It has nothing to do with carelessness. Do those bonehead HONESTLY think that chicks are just 'careless' and that's why they get abortions. The truth is.. people have sex and they sometimes get pregnant. Sometimes birth control doesn't work, sometimes women are raped, but the last time I checked it wasn't the woman's "carelessness" that got her pregnant, it was a man. The very creatures that write ignorant editorials like that. As IF any of the self-satisfied bastards like that, or the ones in Washington, would encourage their mistresses to have their love child, rather than sneaking her off to a Park Avenue doctor to "take care of it".
