Bettors take aim at latest White House Scandal

Sportsbook.com has entered the fray in the latest political storm to rock the White House by offering odds on the future of its Deputy Chief of Staff, Karl Rove. The opening line is that Rove will not be dismissed or resign in the wake of an ongoing criminal investigation, with odds at 1-6.

Roves job security has been the subject of much speculation since allegations surfaced recently that he leaked the identity of a CIA operative to the media in an effort to discredit an outspoken critic of the administrations war in Iraq.

The betting line is a reflection of President Bushs seeming flip-flop on the issue based on comments he has offered since the scandal broke in 2003. Initially, Bush said he would fire anyone from the administration found to have been the source of the leak. After Rove was revealed to be the source, however, Bush said he would only dismiss an administration official who had engaged in criminal activity.

Observers are also keenly aware of the Presidents dependence on Rove as his long-time political strategist and election campaign savior. Since odds were posted yesterday, bettors have been wagering heavily that Rove will not be dismissed or resign. But with Democrats increasingly calling for Roves dismissal from cabinet, the President may have no choice but to sack his most indispensable aid.

2. So, they're betting he will?
I've had the 'odds' explained to me several times...I never seem to retain the concept though. :(

6. Rove is the poster boy for an arrogant, corrupt bush administration
keep him on, same for DeLay. They are our best allies.

7. I Read That as "Rove Goes" Pays 6:1
The article implies that the betting is heavily in Rove's favor,
such that if you bet on Rove getting canned or resiging and he does,
they pay 6 to 1.

But I couldn't actually find it on their site.

9. I bet Rove won't be fired even if he's charged and put on trial.
The only way Rove goes is if Bush himself is charged right along with him. If only Rove and Scooter are charged they will keep them on and try to delay the trial as long as possible then issue pardons after 2006.
