| RW Genius: It's Easy To Stay On Message When You're Lying |
|
That is the genius of the RW's approach to modern politics. Lie 100% of the time. Don't be concerned with facts, just spew lies. If you're called on the lies, just make up some new lies on the spot and send the LW running to check those "facts" while you score points.
Compare how the RW is handling Traitorgate. Get out there and attack Joe Wilson as a liar. Your ammo? Lies. The Dems will diligently waste a few days trying to disprove the lies while your new lies become part of the discourse. With all of the facts on the side of the LW, the public discourse is being set by RW lies.
I'm convinced that's how Hannity, Rush and others keep going day after day. It's not that they are true believers who think they've got a different perspective on the facts, it's that they know they're lying and they just don't care. In fact, they revel in their ability to lie ad infinitum. A Dem has his facts challenged and it stops him dead in his tracks, giving the impression that his facts are incomplete or wrong. A Hannity gets called on the carpet by an Isikoff and it rolls off his back because he knows he was lying to begin with: there's no facts to recheck, so why get upset.
We need to realize that as we try combat them.
BTW - Barney Frank did a great job on last night's O'Really Factor. He challenged Bozo Bill on every one of his assumptions ON THE SPOT. Great job.

The Rove talking points are increasingly bizarre, and polls suggest they just aren't working.

forget about checking their facts. Call bullshit - tell the REAL facts - and when they lie say: BULLSHIT, PROVE IT!

| 3. Good points there. When they lie, make them cite sources. |
|
If they are going to lie, make them dig a deep hole. Challenge everything they say.
Don't let any "fact" go unchallenged. Even if you can't check on the veracity of a specific claim, cite times where their "facts" turned out to be lies.

| 5. During the Isikoff piece, Hannity quoted Pat Roberts from the |
|
Senate report where Roberts disparaged Wilson. Yes, Roberts disparaged Wilson in the report, but he did it through an addendum to the report that was issued AFTER the report had been signed off and issued. Dems at the time strongly objected to Roberts actions, but as the Rs control the process, they couldn't do anything about it. That bit of information has conveniently - and selectively - gone down the memory hole, and Isikoff didn't seem to know about it to give a persepective to Hannity's selective truth-telling.

| 4. For once, we have the easy side of the argument |
|
The Rude Pundit boils it down pretty succinctly:
But this time we're finally on the easy-to-understand, anger-inducing side: Karl Rove outed a CIA agent for petty vengeance against her husband. That's all the narrative that's necessary. To counter that, the opposing side needs to entangle itself in legalistic arguments and semantical stunts, the kinds of arguments that always seem to be what liberals are making. Look at the stunning recitation of alleged history, law, and "media bias," all wadded into a huge ball of semen-stained Kleenex for your disposal by Andrew McCarthy (not the one who made a corpse seem alive in Weekend at Bernie's, but, as a writer for the National Review, achieves the same effect). Watch any of your loyal right-wing pundits act like they know the minutiae of rules and legalities. It's positively, breathtakingly, as they would have once said, "Clintonesque."
____________________
The emphasis is mine. Just keep repeating the basic declarative sentence that Karl Rove outed a CIA agent for petty vengeance against her husband. Let the Troglodyte Right twist itself into pretzels of logic trying to argue "legalities" and "intent." You just come back to the basic point that Rove compromised national security to settle a petty political score.

| 7. Needs lots of lying accomplices too. |

Anyone who is OK with lying is just as bad as a liar in my book. RWers often say things like "Hannity just got that one wrong" to excuse Hannity's bad information. But if Hannity always errs on the side of RW wishes and worldviews, then it becomes clear that Hannity is a liar. Mistakes are made at random. Lies occur in a pattern.
And if said RWer sees the pattern and is still OK with Hannity, that RWer is as much a damned liar as Hannity.
