Bush nominated a conservative. SHOCKING!

So Bush - a conservative President - nominated a conservative to a conservative majority Congress.

Now I know we want to fight every battle and all, but exactly how moderate a nominee does anyone think we're going to get if we even COULD defeat this one?

1. There is a BIG difference between an honest to goodness conservative

and the long list of right wing activist that bush and company continues to push onto the american people. this person is far, far right and not a true conservative. That term is suppose to mean a person who espouses individual liberties, Barry Goldwater comes to mind as a true conservative.

question remains, how moderate do you think we're going to get from this administration?

But what that leaves us with is a moderate to moderate-left candidate. And I don't see how we'll get that, given the numbers.

What we have to lose is a good question. And what I wonder is what filibustering this nominee will get us - will it get us a more liberal nominee? Will it get us more traction on opposing Bush? Will it get us ANYTHING?

15. Let's find out where he stands.

He's not Roy Moore, but I think there is cause to be concerned where civil liberties, reproductive rights and privacy issues are involved. I'll wait for the hearings. I'm, personally not saying filibuster the guy, yet- but I think we deserve honest answers on things like whether or not American citizens, for example, should have the right to use birth control without fear of arrest.

I mean a few months ago people were advocating that the Democrats should filibuster Gonzales (who will only be around for a few years as Attorney General), and now this website is full of defeatist attitudes about a decision that could significantly effect this country for the next two or three decades. I don't get it. I think we lost this fight back in November, but I don't know what the Democrats in the Senate have left to lose at this point. I expect them to try to do something about this horrid nominee whose views are in line only with a fringe slice of American society.
