Senate Democratic leaders call for White House Rove inquiry

Democratic Senate leaders Harry Reid (D-NV), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wrote a letter to President Bush today calling for an internal investigation into whether his adviser Karl Rove leaked the identity of a covert CIA agent, RAW STORY has learned.

"We urge you to launch an investigation immediately," the senators write. "Anyone who is involved in the leaking of a covert agent's identity, especially for political purposes, does not deserve the privilege of serving as a senior adviser to the President of the United States.

A Justice Department investigation is ongoing, and Bush has said he will await the results of that investigation before taking any further steps. It is unlikely he would agree to an internal inquiry.

In a statement this afternoon, Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) suggested the White House might be obstructing justice, a buzzword that rings of Watergate.

1. Where are the rest of them? Why only four?
Is this not important enough for everyone to sign this letter? Where are the rest of the Democrats?

I know that I know that perhaps I'm being naive but I was under the impression that obstructing justice is a non-partisan issue.

3. I am with you
there should of been more signatures. Also congress is wanting to start it's own investigation into this matter....

5. Looks like they rushed this one out today without circulating it.
If it was crucial to get more names for a Senate investigation, like with the Kerry DSM letter, then you circulate it around the entire senate to gather signatures.

This letter was hurried to get it our before the evening news. They are seizing the day.

11. Senate leadership
It seems they restricted it to the highest names, may be because Reid did not want to embarass those who did not want to sign.

Schumer is the DSCC head and is probably there for this reason as well.

12. Yeah, if it's a leadership letter, they are delivering the consensus of
the Senate Dems.

4. LOL, Norm Coleman is a dolt
"When you're out of ideas and lack vision, you are left with nothing but personal attacks and negativity," he remarked. "We have enough to do in the Senate in minding our own business than to be sticking our noses into someone else's business."

Remember the Oil for Food Scandal you were so interested in, Normie? Ah, the spanking you got from Galloway still puts a big, fat grin on my face.

9. Maybe we should be calling our Senators now
Perhaps if they hear from enough of us, they will be more agressive in this. I am so fed up with the passivity of much of this party- if this was reversed, we'd have investigation at the blink of an eye. But I said that about the Gannon story as well and look how that faded into the wind.
