Let's face it.True Democracy anywhere is not in the best interests of the
American Corporate Powers. The best examples of these are in Latin America, starting with Venezuela. There the oligarchy that has held all political and economic powers for so long has been in broad retreat when Chavez emerged triumphant after all the attempts to unseat him.The same is being repeated in Brazil, Argentina, chile, peru, Ecuador and other countries.

I am certain that pattern will be repeated in the Middle East and even in the Caspian basin where tyrants are the order of the day.The Bush administration fears Democracy at home and abroad. All its actions are simply a way to stem the coming tide of democracy. In this, ironically, the U.S. has come to resemble the late, unlamented Soviet Union more and more. The same fate on fast forward awaits us.

1. Of course
Just as the optimal situation for any business (in their own interest) is a monopoly, so the best situation for a ruling elite is a dictatorship. Both mean an end to choice and a captive, reliant populace.

So when you've got a government that is melded with business, what other outcome can you expect besides an inevitable slide into a "one provider" solution?

2. Good points. This is why an elaborate web of lies and illusions has
to be contructed to enable the ruling elites to continue their masquerade. When the people start believing in these myths, the task of the powers that be is made easier.

And, welcome to DU!

3. "Web" is a good choice of terms
The fly that doesn't struggle doesn't attract the spider, so it can remain "safe" in the web until the spider detects it or it starves to death.

The fly that struggles weakly only becomes more deeply ensnared, and brings the spider quickly to it.

But the fly that struggles mightily breaks free, and cripples the spider's ability to snare others.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad to be here amongst the mighty flies. :)
