I know a lot of you will call this a diversion, maybe it is. But its a horrible tragedy, do you think our friends in the UK are walking around worrying about Karl Rove right no. They are scared shitless and mourning this tragedy. . .its not about ROVE.

Peter Fitzgerald is a capable prosecutor and he will do his job, regardless of what dominates the media right now.

Give it a rest, show some class and think about our friends in the UK.

15. Sending a Message to Us....
Despite the massive security in place for the G8 Summit, they want us to know that they are capable of pulling off a stunt. Also, seems clear that it deliberately is associated with economic power (G8, WTF) structure.

Sort of ironic, because it shows London in the world's attention for being selected, and how al Qaeda can "bring them to their knees" so to speak.

A horrific tragedy all around, my thoughts and deepest prayers are with Britons and Londoners.

9. So you're declaring martial law? A person can't be compassionate
and concerned and discuss (maybe off the wall) other theories of what might have happened?

Gee, we haven't seen any duplicity by the bush** administration and the neocons up until now, have we? >SARCASM<.

I hate it when someone decides what the acceptable program for everybody else should be.

I'm not saying that these other theories have an ounce of credibility, but I'm also saying that they do not detract one iota from the seriousness of the situation or mean that people are not sympathetic.

Indeed, it does detract from the seriousness of a situation and indicate a complete lack of human sympathy when people make a thing like this an occassion for delusional grand-standing.

48. It all depends on your definition of whacked, don't you think? Maybe
what I consider outrageous or bizarre is just totally normal for someone else. Why, once upon a time I would have thought that anyone who said that my country would start a war without justification was a deranged lunatic. And I would have been the one who had their head stuffed up my anal orifice, because we sure as hell did.

Also, why do you think that someone who might have some strange ideas on why this happened are totally incapable of feeling sympathy (or empathy) for the victims of these horrible acts? What would make speculation on the reasons for these events determine how one would feel toward the victims and their countrymen? What is this, the emotional/mental 'can't walk and chew gum at the same time' law? I for one can entertain several ideas in my head while feeling sympathy or anger at an individual or group of individuals, depending on the situation. I think that most people can.

What I can't entertain is being told what to say, what to think, and how to feel by a bunch of people who, in their next breath, will be defending the right of free speech and open conversation simply because it suits their purposes at that time and in that circumstance.

That is a little shop-worn and shabby.

There is nothing at all bizarre, on the historical record, about nations commencing war for no purpose that would seem sensible to a level-headed citizen. Indeed, that is pretty much the general case.

Did you quit paying your household bills during the Tsunami?

We are not in a polar universe where only one problem can be addressed at a time. Rove's decent, the Downing Street Minutes and the march to Impeachment it demands, high flying energy costs at home, and the war in Iraq continue unabated regardless of events in Britain. So let Blair take care of his mess with as much help as we can spare but do not let it distract us from the pressing matters at home.

And, by the way, Blair and his supporters are just as much to blame for the events that have taken place since December 2000 as the NeoCons.

12. The british are very resilient.
Remember the I.R.A. use to be a fixture in England, and many british people that I know carried on as if reacting to a bombing (the way we react to things in America) would be a sign that the I.R.A. was getting to them.

I mourn for them, but hope they will respond to this in a genuine british way. Speaking softly and carrying a big stick. Not like the U.S.

Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 08:41 AM by goclark

I was crying when I woke up to this horror on my TV.
I cried for the English people and I cried for the world.
My precious cousin lives in England and I am waiting for a call back. Can't reach him by phone yet.

But when I heard Tony Blair saying that this was done because they knew that world leaders were going to be talking about Africa and Poverty, I lost it!

No Tony, this was done because of the policy of "WE who are against those other people that are beneath US." That is the mantra of your buddy BUSH.

I don't think the terrorists care one bit that a group of White people were "trying to be caring to the people of Africa."

The words that Blair used today , in my mind, were not appropriate. It was the same bully mentality. It keeps getting the world in trouble.

22. Agreed --
I fortunately now know that my son, who's attending an LSE program for the summer, is safe. Until I knew that, I didn't want to hear about any theories, or other news. I just wanted him safe.

I remember the horrible feeling of helplessness after 9/11, and I couldn't have cared less about anything else happening on the planet at that time.

When I was wondering if our friends were killed during the tsunami (one was, one was hurt), the callous comments of many (not on DU) at the time cut deeply.

I'd never dream of telling anyone what to do, but my personal view is that this is a time for sympathy, support and solidarity with our friends in the UK.

I'm not saying that I think this adminstration is above doing some crazy shit, I'm just saying that not every crazy shit thing that happens is their doing.

45. I think that
what is evident is that the administration erred greatly in not finishing the job in Afghanistan. I recall Senator Kerry attempting to hammer this point home during the debates. Rather than hunt down and kill Usama bin Laden an company, the president withdrew the greatest fighting forces on the planet, and invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9-11.

The result of this bungling of national, and indeed international strategy, is that innocent people suffer and die. As a Child of God, I pray for the victims of the evil of war: those people and their families in London, and those families in Iraq as well.

I think it is important to be respectful of their suffering. I also think it is fair to note that people like Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame were working to stop people like the ones who are responsibile for today's violence, while the president and his friends were busy advocating for Halliburton.

54. I can be upset about what's happened in

London, a city I love, the city where my grandfather grew up, and also be concerned about what political use will be made in the U.S. and the U.K. of today's bombings in the U.K.

On September 11, 2001, I cared about New York and D.C. but I was also concerned about how those incidents would be used politically. Events have shown that I was right to be concerned.

Moreover, it won't help anyone in the UK for us to stop thinking or talking about Rove. If it would actually help, I'd be in favor of a moratorium on all discussion not centered on the events in London.

Rather than saying "Don't talk about Rove!" why don't you research and list ways in which DUers might actually help Londoners?

people turn a blind eye to the leaders of our countries. Nobody asks the tough questions--WHY did this happen? Shouldn't we be more vigilant and ready after 9/11? Until we hold our leaders accountable, and uncover truth about tragedies like these, the tragedies will happen, and they WILL capitalize on it.
