Significance of July 7 as date of attacks?
I think the dates chosen are significant.

A search of Middle Eastern History shows this as significant for July 7:
On July 7, 1937, the Peel Commission published its recommendations, which included the partition of western Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state.

2. Thank you.
I asked that question in LBN and I got a bullshit response
about "it's the day of the G8."

6. That's not "a bullshit response"
the point is that a lot of the specialist police squads, like bomb squads, will be up in Scotland, rather than London. Also, there will be plenty of world media in the UK at the moment, so it gets lots of coverage quickly.

8. I asked about "historical significance."

The G8 is not "historical." It hasn't fucking
happened yet.

Bullshit response.

16. no , the realistic response
We are talking about murderous, undirected terrorist attacks against civilians.
The simple fact is: because of the G8, less security personnel than usual were in London.
I would not any significance in the date; why has there to be a "historic" occasion?

14. It is probably the right answer
Official opening of the G8 and the time was coordinated with the Bush/Blair meeting.

9. But Al Qaeda has rarely struck on significant anniversaries
Aside from the 1993 WTC bombing, the attacks
have been driven by opportunity.
Sept. 11, 2001 was chosen because of
the intersection of the flight schedules.
Most of their other attacks happen
when and where people least expect them.

18. I somehow doubt
that holds any significance for the terrorists unless they were Chilean - and thus far I have little reason in believing it was them.

19. 9-11 had a significance in the crusades, too
It was the date of a major battle involving Saladin, but I forgot the details. I don't have all my books with me to look it up.

11. Brian Jenkins at RAND said...
that many years ago they were asked to make a list of dates of significance for various terrorist groups and the calender filled up. EVERY day has some significance for some group.
