Fred Phelps To Arrive in Plattsburgh NY July 2nd
Now I have to address a question to the people here at democraticunderground. Phelps, the disguisting waste of life bible thumper who'd gone so far to approve of 9/11 and the deaths of soldiers in iraq will be showing his face in new york, in the adirondack region, this saturday.

He'd been quoted to say that plattsburgh is a disguisting place and should be zapped from the world by god for its abominations. Now, this is a relative fix for me, because I have conflicting views.

On the one hand I am bisexual, I dislike this man because he takes pretenses out of a bible I'd read twice and puts them to a completely irrelevant way. He deifies everything I hate in the christian church (yes believe it or not this man is allowed to do what he does because he has a good deal of followers, even if they aren't vocal publically of allegiance). I do not think a man spreading such hate about a town in new york should step foot here because of the way he rubs his ass on the tragedy that happened in this state.

I'm also driven by a pacifistic point of view. I don't like to fight as much as I'd be happy to see this guy plowed over by a tractor. I think stepping in would be useless because it'd only give people a reason to publically rally against me. Of course, I have to live here.

The main trouble is I live only 15 minutes from plattsburgh. This waste of space will be allowed to speak hatred about things I consider a touchy issue -- also, I think any of the christians who feel persecuted as of late will be getting it a lot worse when this guy actually steps foot in new york, after praising 9/11.

There are groups who seem rather undetermined to deal with him, but I look at it as both a nightmare and an opporatunity, since when will a man of such hate be so close to do something?

What are your opinions? I don't know if this really fits in the general discussion, although I do know phelps is a rather large icon in different posts here, and deals with different news events. I think him coming to my peaceful little town will put it on the map for all the wrong reasons -- plattsburgh is by no means a big nasty city. Yet, it may become that way. Is there any way to keep him out?

Many thanks fellow DUers.

5. Because the mayor of plattsburgh
Is gay. No other reason than that. I think it's really strange that he'd choose some random out of the way place like plattsburgh. But if he did rally a lot of people, it's an excuse to re-open the plattsburgh airforce base which the repubs wanted to reopen to help counter terrorists who may come in from canada.

I think that it may tie into something deeper than just phelps randomly deciding to go to nowhere newyork...seems fishy to me, but all I know is I just don't want him here :(

3. I would be in his face.....
and I'm not kidding! Let him know that he's not wanted. Harrass him, within the boundaries of the law, so that maybe he'll think twice about returning. Even better, figure out a way to do it BEFORE he arrives and maybe he'll stay away.

7. He never made it to Tucson
He was supposed to come to Tucson earlier this year, but then he changed his plans.

I like to think that in might have had something to do with the gun laws here in Arizona, laws that allow people to carry guns in the open on their hips.

Or concealed, as long as they attend and pass a CCW class.
