1. US Combat Casualties - 0. Non-Combat: 1

3. There were no U.S. combat fatalities in Bosnia or Kosovo
http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Apr/04022003/iraq/44152.asp

There was several helicopter accidents where some troops died, and other accident related casualties, but no combat casualties I could find after a Google search.

4. O combat deaths.

It's in The End of the American Era, by a Georgetown professor named Kupchnak (or something like that). If I had to guess, I'd say it's on about page 207.

The issue with this statistic is whether the US should have risked some American lives to save the lives of lots of innoncent, non-Americans.

If America had been willing to risk ground troops earlier, thousands of Kosovoans (and Bosnians, and Rwandans, and Haitians) might be alive today.

In any event, ground troops did go in eventually (and were pulled out of tense situations, because Clinton didn't want to risk US lives) and no Americans died.

During the Clinton years, only 18 Americans lost their lives in combat -- they were all from one firefight in Somalia (the Black Hawk Down incident, I believe).

If you don't believe in US isolationism, and if you believe in the message in Spiderman (that great power requires great responsibility), this isn't a statistic of which you should be particularly proud.

8. If it wasn't BHD, then it was another firefight which...
...lead to Clinton pulling out of Somalia. According to the book I cited, those 18 deaths in an unidentified Somalian firefight were the only combate fatalities during Clinton's administriation.

I think Bush I had 147 combat fatalities (Gulf War), but I'm not sure.

6. I thank you all very much.
I was monitoring a little discourse between a wingnut and a Democrat at Guy's Guest book.
