One of the jobs of a Political Party is to communicate ideas to the people
That job is usually given to the leadership of the Party. If the other Party makes a statement that is blatantly false, it is up to the leadership of our Party to clarify and to communicate the truth to the people. It is not really up to the media to tell the people, "this is what he meant to say". That is the job of our leaders.

If we fail to communicate our ideas in a clear and concise manner, the words will be twisted and distorted for political advantage by the other Party. That is politics. If you say something that cannot be defended, sometimes you have to apologize. However, if your message is strong and true, you should never have to apologize. You should be able to explain your message in a simple and clear manner which people can understand. The other Party will hesitate to criticize those that can communicate their ideas in a better way than they, the opposition, can communicate. That is our job. When the truth and the issue are on our side, we should never lose it in the sphere of public discussion.
