Demand the truth from Fox News
1) SIGN the open letter!

http://foxletter.thinkpol.net/

We call upon The Fox News Channel to recognize that its responsibility as a major media outlet must trump the partisan agenda of its news directors and executives. The vital interests of democracy and informed consent are endangered by Fox News’ obfuscation of and blatant apologetics for the growing list of historic outrages committed by the Bush administration.

2. READ Students for Responsible Journalism's latest press release:

http://foxletter.thinkpol.net/FOXpressrelease4.htm

Media organizations, even in the absence of the FCC Fairness Doctrine wrongly repealed in 1987, have an obligation to the public to provide “fair and balanced” news. The Fox News Channel has violated this trust, and compromised our democratic society in open collusion with the sitting administration.

3. ATTEND THE RALLY at Fox News Denver!

7. Since you're asking me to sign a petition that invokes the absence of...
the Fairness Doctrine, would you please answer my question.

How would a federal government agency, charged with enforcing a newly-instituted Fairness Doctrine, determine what "fair and balanced" means?

8. the fairness doctrine preserved that balance for years.
the FCC was given authority to enforce "equal time" and "response to ad hominem" provisions in the SCOTUS case of Red Lion Broadcasting v. FCC in 1969 (look it up). It did so effectively and impartially, and assured that diverse viewpoints were aired.

After it was repealed by the FCC in 1987, Congress had passed a law reinstating it -- Reagan vetoed. Happened again in 1990.

Without a regulatory requirement to give equal time to opposing viewpoints (a fine definition of "fair and balanced"), the stage was set for the Fox News Channel...
