The cover story in this week's NYT magazine...

was, to me, obviously an attempt by a well-meaning writer to do the most balance possible piece on the sort of people who oppose gay marriage. He found, I'm sure, the most balanced among them he could, and used their most sensical quotes to try and fairly give their point of view. And they still came off ans complete wingnuts!

This is not because they're Christians - I know plenty of Christians, and not one of them, not one, thinks gays are sinners bound for hell, or that they shouldn't be allowed to marry and have families. Admittedly, I travel in pretty progressive circles, so haven't had much of a chance to hear the true-believer side of things.

The point of my post is this: now, thanks to the article I'm talking about, I think I have heard their side in its best possible light. And it's still complete nonsense and craziness to me. I guess I already knew that.
