David Gibbs III ...represented Schiavo’s parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, in their fight to keep Schiavo alive via a feeding tube. The Florida lawyer is a longtime friend of James Scudder, senior pastor at the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church in Lake Zurich.

On Sunday, Gibbs spoke to several hundred people about the Schiavo case at the church. He also discredited the recently released autopsy of Schiavo, which said she was blind and had no chance of emerging from her persistent vegetative state. Gibbs said Schiavo tried to communicate with her parents up until the last few days before she died...

Schiavo “would literally squeal and get excited” when her mother entered her hospital room, and she would cry when her mother left, Gibbs said. Schiavo also tried to speak to her mother and was able make sounds, Gibbs said. “I watched it dozens and dozens of times,” he said...

Gibbs says Schiavo wasn’t blind. “Clearly, she recognized her mother and father,” he said. Instead of “brain damaged” Gibbs called Schiavo “brain injured...”
