1. They control most of the media - they can do pretty much what they want.

14. They haven't been held accountable or forced to feel shame since Nixon

left office, because the media has kept them propped up for over 2 decades now.

And THAT ability to escape judgement is what makes people drunk with hubris.

4. It's a human condition
And not exclusive to repugs. World-Class hypocrites include religious believers, democrats, pundits, spokesmen, the entire sales profession, the medical professions, lawyers, celebrities, employers, employees, consumers...

Especially their followers. They can spout all the garbage they want, then turn around a week later and change their story.

9. think i figured that out
from watching country music videos. They believe in myths about themselves. They are uberpatriots, love their family values and traditions. They conveniently omit everything that contradicts the myths they believe about themselves.

That is what the repugs have figured out - they sell the myth and make people feel good and even superior. When they identify with the repug candidates it reinforces the myth and their role in it. They are perfect as they are.

No need for them to think - No need for facing up to bigotry; abuse of family members; drinking and drunkeness; no need to question a war that is killing THEIR people; etc.

13. your on to something here
Except I would substitute 'ideology' for 'myth'

They adhere to a set of doctrines & beliefs that form the basis of a socio-political system they see as the only acceptable one. These are the neo-cons and the fundies.

There can be no hypocrisy when you beleive yours is the only right and true way, which cannot be compromised.

This is why you cannot reason with them, you cannot even embarrass them, because they have no shame, only IDEOLOGY.

This is why they are so scary, because ideologues with political power will stop at nothing to impose their plan on others.

You said "No need for them to think"-- exactly right on.

Adolph Hitler and others came to power as political ideologues, which is why its so important to keep fighting them at every turn.

11. Many don't feel guilt about *anything* ... whenever something bad
happens to them, it's someone else's fault. NOT EVER theirs. They will not admit mistakes but nurture resentments for a lifetime. Once you are in the BAD graces of the far right wing, you are NOT ever forgiven. That's why John McCain has a Zero chance of winning the Republican Nomination, i.e., the right wing nut cases believed all the propaganda spewed by Rove-Co during 2000.

16. They are united as hypocrites.
It's the united part that makes it work.

They have to catapult the propaganda.

When all Repugs are saying the same things, regardless of the truth, or the hypocrisy, or the ridiculousness, the rhetoric sticks. People believe it to be true because that's what they hear from all of them. They don't pay any attention to how ludicrous it is to believe it because the Repugs always have another rhetoric trick to back up their stupidity.

I'd like to think that Lincoln was correct when he said, "You cannot fool all the people all the time." The whole thing is already so ridiculous, with head exploding moments occurring so often, that I wonder when the people will ever open their eyes to all this foolishness.

17. they believe they are entitled. . .
There was a post here recently, a link to an article about Frist, he said his mother constantly bolstered his self esteem, making sure he was first in everything. He said he was insufferable. . .implying because of that.

It fits with my theory, which is not really different from the "myth" theory I guess. In my family we were made to fell thankful for all we have (we were lower middle class when I was growing up). Remember the Kennedys saying "those to whom much is given, much is expected." That's how I was raised.

I never see evidence of gratitude on the part of GOP leaders, only entitlement. "We're entitled to drive big cars and waste resources because we are Americans" or whatever.

If you are entitled, or believe you are entitled, its easy to do whatever it is you want. Consequences don't (or shouldn't) apply to you.

18. They genuinely don't realise they're doing it

They haven't ben taught any intellectual self-discipline. They may or may not have learned some form of intellectual discipline, economics, psychology, whatever, but no SELF-discipline.

They haven't been taught that the first thing you do with a belief structure is criticise it. All human brains have this habit of producing garbage, but most people don't get to grips with the implication that *their* brain might be producing garbage, they're usually much more concerned with trying to avoid other people they feel alienated from "cutting and pasting" new ideology into their belief structures.

People who actualy sit down and think "Okay, what do I *think* about politics" always end up as liberals because they have learned to criticise their own beliefs, and right wing thinking is just chock full of nursery rhyme thinking, sing-song, meaningless "morality" that doesn't have anything to do with anything outside the author's head, feel-good sound-bitish aphorisms and stuff that's just plain factually wrong, usually thorugh a total lack of interest in reality.

Right wing fuckwits just absorb whatever ideology makes them feel good about themselves and don't even notice that they believe self-contradictory things because they've never been taught that the contradictory things in THEIR heads are as bad as the contradictory things they can see in other people's heads, if they can see them at all. There *are* right wing people who can analyse belief structures but they keep falling into stupid repetetive cyclic self-reinforcing pseudologic because the basic PURPOSE of their analysis isn't about finding the truth, it's about WINNING, they never analyse THEMSELVES, the most important step.

To them, politics is a tribal game, a game of who's winning, it's not about establishing the truth or coming to some kind of consensus. It's about what they look like, not what IS. That's why they love TV so much, it's all fantasy.

If you're going to analyse a problem, the first thing you do is make sure your tools are in good shape, and your brain has to absorb information in an open minded way to get good results. The reason all their arguments fail is because they don't have the Western Scientific Tradition drummed into their heads when they're kids. Truth really isn't a big deal for them. I came to this realisation when I saw someone on TV saying the reason he opposed evolution was that he "didn't like the idea" that he was descended fom an ape, as if reality was a big video game designed to make him feel comfortable about himself rather than something seperate from him that he had to relate to objectively.

You have to exclude sources of bias when you're analysing something. The biggest source of bias is always yourself.

So they just collect beliefs that fit their image of themselves as if it was stamp collecting or a sort of social club and if it comes out hypocritical, who cares? So long as their RW buddies still drink the Kool-Aid with them thy don't *care*.

In some ways they are far more like the primitive mob they subconsciously (or sometimes quite consciously) accuse the left of being than they realise...
