Conscientious Objectors: How to get C.O. status in case of draft
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 12:23 PM by LynneSin
All this talk about the shady tactics that military recruiters are doing to get enlistees due to the sharp drop in military recruitment makes me worried that the draft is soon around the corner.

I strongly urge anyone who has children or is of draft age to check out these website for Conscicous Objecters and find out what it takes to get C.O. status in case of a draft. One just doesn't say they're a C.O but needs to show some sort of record or history of opposing the war. What better time then building your C.O status now before the draft is enacted (oh, an planning an alternative out just incase the CO status falls through)

Getting C.O. status means if you're drafted, the military is required to put you into non-combat position. The website will explain more details on what happens

1. Very important.
Help your son(s) get started now, if they haven't already.

3. And daughters.
There is no way my kids are going to serve in this travesty. I will move to France first.

5. Not Yet
At this point in time the Selective Service has not put into place any system that would draft women. Congress would have to repeal the law that covers this, and I don't see that happening.

6. I wouldn't put anything past them.
Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on legislation to repeal the SS law as we speak.

2. Thank you for the links.
I attended a CO training session. They recommend that teens start their "why I am a CO" documentation ASAP! Then when they apply for the status, they will have solid basis for their claim.

4. Some needed information
There's just some things that you didn't mention.

1. CO status is one where the registrant has to appear before a local board. The registrant can bring an advisor, and can also have
witnesses. But the advisor cannot be a witness, and only the registrant and the board members are allowed to question the witnesses.

2. The registrant has to convince the board members that he is sincere in his beliefs. And that's the key thing, sincerity.

3. There are 2 types of C.O. status, one the registrant will not serve in a combat position, but does not have a problem with serving
in a noncombat capacity. The other C.O. status is where the registrant will not serve as a combatant or noncombatant. With the
second one he will be required to work in an alternative service option.

7. High school - recruiting
"But Pentagon officials say the military deserves the same access to students that schools give to colleges and employers."
This can be stopped, but only by writing the school a letter requesting the students personal information (address, phone #,grades, and deportment)not be given ever. It will be sorry enough when the despot dictators start selective service and quickly take all the finest and best.
