explain his comment)--but went on to say that Dems are trying to make a lot of it.

6. Rove--->Kate "Cigarette Woman" O'Bierne--->"So-Called Memo
Did anyone hear that spin? Why not just start the lie that the memo is a fake...or do the usual right wing party game of insinuating they know it's a fake, just the "librul media" won't let go. It's worked endless times. Let's see if this is the new game. Obviously, they can't deny it...so try to kill it through inuendo.

17. No Doubt, She's On Major Spin Cycle
I thought I heard that, too. Maybe someone captured the blurb or has another take on it...but it appears she's trying to say the DSM is fake...using the strawman GOOP line that the Intel was flawed, thus the DSM is flawed. Makes your head spin. :eyeroll:

26. Ahhh Gotcha...Tie The New Lie To An Old One
Of course this refutes all the fact the DSM already dismisses Curveball and casts serious doubt on other forms of intel regarding WMD. The pretext Powell used was the use was "imminent"...any time...not quite the "could be by 2010" crap that they've fallen back on. Sheesh.

38. here's an "imminent threat" quote from Bush:
http://www.worldpress.org/specials/iraq/

Bush first planted the roots of the argument for pre-emptive self-defense in his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 12, 2002, when he said, "The first time we may be completely certain has a nuclear weapon is when, God forbid, he uses one. We owe it to all our citizens to do everything in our power to prevent that day from coming."

Five days later, he spelled out the case for pre-emptive self-defense more fully and forcefully in his National Security Strategy, now known as the "Bush Doctrine," in which he vowed to defend:

The United States, the American people, and our interests at home and abroad by identifying and destroying the threat before it reaches our borders. While the United States will constantly strive to enlist the support of the international community, we will not hesitate to act alone, if necessary, to exercise our right of self-defense by acting pre-emptively against such terrorists, to prevent them from doing harm against our people and our country….Given the goals of rogue states and terrorists, the United States can no longer solely rely on a reactive posture as we have in the past. The inability to deter a potential attacker, the immediacy of today's threats, and the magnitude of potential harm that could be caused by our adversaries' choice of weapons, do not permit that option. We cannot let our enemies strike first….For centuries, international law recognized that nations need not suffer an attack before they can lawfully take action to defend themselves against forces that present an imminent danger of attack. Legal scholars and international jurists often conditioned the legitimacy of pre-emption on the existence of an imminent threat—most often a visible mobilization of armies, navies, and air forces preparing to attack. We must adapt the concept of imminent threat to the capabilities and objectives of today's adversaries….The United States has long maintained the option of pre-emptive actions to counter a sufficient threat to our national security. The greater the threat, the greater is the risk of inaction—and the more compelling the case for taking anticipatory action to defend ourselves, even if uncertainty remains as to the time and place of the enemy's attack. To forestall or prevent such hostile acts by our adversaries, the United States will, if necessary, act pre-emptively.

Bush pursued this line of argument again in his Jan. 28, 2003, State of the Union address, saying, "Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option."

40. Hey, even more quotes
here's the motherlode of admin "imminent" quotes:

http://www.williambowles.info/wmd/bush_lies.html

No terrorist state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people and the stability of the world than the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. – Donald Rumsfeld, testimony to Congress, Sept. 19, 2002

The world is also uniting to answer the unique and urgent threat posed by Iraq. – George W. Bush, Nov. 23, 2002

This is about an imminent threat. – White House spokesman Scott McClellan, press briefing, Feb. 10, 2003

After being asked whether Hussein was an “imminent” threat:
Well, of course he is! – White House spokesman Dan Bartlett, CNN interview, Jan. 26, 2003

After being asked whether the U.S. went to war because officials said Hussein’s alleged weapons were a direct, imminent threat to the U.S.:
Absolutely. – White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, press briefing, May 7, 2003

... later the repug weasel parsing beginns ...

I think some in the media have chosen to use the word ‘imminent.’ Those were not words we used. We used ‘grave and gathering’ threat. – White House spokesman Scott McClellan, press briefing, Jan. 31, 2004

43. I asked a civil question
I'm a registered independent who frequents this board because I believe in finding out as much as I can about issues that interest me, before making a decision. I'm sorry if you see that as "trolling" or, somehow, as objectionable. Since I assume that you are secure in your political beliefs, there really is no need for you to be defensive and rude.

Furthermore, since I expect that the Democratic Party is hoping to win more voters over to their candidates, your confrontational attitude isn't going to help. I won't simply fall into political line. I'm going to ask questions and look for reasonable and intelligent answers to those questions.

Your response was neither.

Now, if this is a problem for you, we have two alternatives.

1. I can leave with the understanding that I am not welcome to ask questions on a Progressive website as I try to educate myself on issues, or.
2. I can stay, ask my questions respectfully, and rely on the goodwill of the posters on this board, who will take the time to provide the information that I have been unable to find.

I am not looking for trouble nor am I looking to make trouble. I simply asked a question.

their butts. I haven't watched this show in over a year...but I remember O'Biern Kate..whatever...she's Opus Dei. But when I used to watch that show (as a poltical junkie) she reminded me of my own Repug Friends who are now floundering around for excuses to bail themselves out about how THEY accepted Bush/PNAC lies and I was out marching with other folks to try to STOP THIS INVASION.

My Repub friends now are "scrambling" saying it was a "cover up" by FBI/CIA and isn't it great that the Chimp has consolidated information under someone he trusts....NEGROPONTE...the South American Killer...

Sheesh....

"THEY" will never admit the lies. We can only hope that they start to see the "Chimp/Emperor" as a Liability and want him gone to cover their Asses as much as we want him gone because he was a "LIAR AND A THIEF" and should be Impeached no matter who or whatever anybody looks at it from any party or other affilaition! UGH....

Covering Butt's is going on BIG TIME OUT THERE!

Peace
O8)

Here is my standard letter. Of course everyone should use their own words,,,but maybe it can give someone some ideas...

Dear Sir/Madam:

As you know, on May 1 of this year a document now commonly referred to as “|The Downing Street Memo” was released into the British Press. This document raises serious question about how the administration was handling intelligence related to Iraq and appears to suggest that the Bush Administration had already decided on war when publicly it was claiming that no such decision had been made.

This document suggest that the Bush administration was determined to “fix intelligence” around a predetermined policy.

It is most disturbing that there has been a virtual media blackout regarding “The Downing Street Memo”. Even more disturbing is the absence in the America media of any credible discussion or coverage regarding strong, credible and independent evidence that the Bush Administration intentionally mislead the U.S. Congress, the media and the American people.

I do hope you will accept the responsibility to address this issue and provide serious investigative journalism into this matter.

Furthermore, on Thursday June 16, 2005, Rep. John Conyers, Jr., ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other House members will hold a hearing to consider testimony concerning the Downing Street minutes and questions of possible fixing of prewar intelligence. I do hope you will be giving full coverage to these events.

Sincerely,
