An excerpt from Clark's book from Newsweek/msnbc.com
(This is an excerpt from Clark's book posted on msnbc.com. - I am very intrigued by Clark. And after reading this I am even more terrified of the Bush Admin's plan. Hopefully, the fact that things aren't going well in Iraq have put the cabash on the rest of the plan, although if they get 4 more years... It just gives more import to expelling them from the White House in 2004. --I added the emphasis in the excerpt)

excerpt below, Clark speaking:

I WENT BACK through the Pentagon in November 2001, and one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said. But there was more. This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia, and Sudan. So, I thought, this is what they mean when they talk about draining the swamp. It was evidence of the Cold War approach: Terrorism must have a state sponsor, and it would be much more effective to attack a state than to chase after individuals, nebulous organizations, and shadowy associations.

snip

What a mistake! I reflectedas though the terrorism were simply coming from these states. ...

-end excerpt.

Sorry if a dupe - I didn't see it anywhere.

1. It Sounds Like
a prescription for perpetual war....

I oppose it for moral as well as prudential reasons....

The only smart thing to come out of Pat Buchanan's mouth was "America is a republic not an empire"

As one who supports the concept of just war I am concerned that Bushco's misguided policies will do more to deligitimize the use of force in even approprite sitiations like stopping genocide than a million marchers for peace...

2. Jesus, that is scary
Seven countries in five years. Eight, if you count Afghanistan. Funny how they were ignoring North Korea and Saudi Arabia then, too. :scared:
