Texas governor REJECTS criticism of signing state bill at Christian school

Governor Rick Perry is rejecting criticism of his plans to sign two pieces of legislation Sunday at a Fort Worth Christian campus.

One bill requires parental consent before a girl younger than 18 can have an abortion and the other proposes to voters a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

Supporters praise the event at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Worth as a major victory for conservative Republicans, but critics say the ceremony is inappropriate.

Perry says the church school is the appropriate venue for values-related issues.

2. Rick Perry is the lowest kind of politician. A political whore. What makes
him such a dispicable character, like DeLay, is that their ethics and values are only a mirage.

3. Oh, I see - the state house is not a venue for values-related issues
But we knew that about Texas, Perry. We got that from our DeLay 101 class.

4. Perry to Jews: We don't want you in Texas
He has in effect endorsed a state religion. Those who do not wish to convert are effectively unwelcome.

5. What is up with Texas, is Perry going to continue in office or what
In California here, Arnold Schwarzenegger is considered to be on the ropes in spite of great media coverage.

6. Perry may have a primary fight with KBH and is playing to base
Kay Baily Hutchinson is the most popular politician in Texas and may make a run for Governor. Perry's only hope is to play to his base, the conservative Christians.

7. Gosh-A_Rooney, Too Bad For The Conservative Xians
Gosh-a-Rooney, too bad for the conservative Xians! By cuddling so close to Tom DeLay's Governor's Mansion errand boy, his ethics problems are now THEIR ethics problem, his failed policies are now THEIR failed policies, his incompetent leadership is now a reflection on THEM.

And the Conservative Xians are wondering why the early churchmen they profess to admire so much took such pains not to associate themselves with the imperial Roman government?

I read recently that the Southern Baptists are growing concerned that their evangelizing campaigns aren't bringing in the converts as much as they used to. I suspect that part of their problem is that they're seen as being so close to the "Conservative" wing of the Republican Party and potential converts are understandably turned off.
