Will Democrats Ever Take Their Gloves Off And Fight Right-Wingers?
CounterPunch

40 Interns and a Mule
Will the Democrats Ever Take Advantage of the Kindness of Their Enemies
By SAUL LANDAU

Will the Democrats ever take off their gloves and fight appropriately against the truly dangerous gang of ultra right wingers who have taken over the executive and legislative branches of government and threaten to dominate the judiciary?

As the extreme right wingers show their true character in repeated sex and addiction scandals, the Democrats ignore choice opportunities for counterpunching. Indeed, the now routine news stories about major reactionary spokespeople engaging in scandalous behavior offers liberals a chance to show the public the true nature of those who have taken over the U.S. government.

Marquis of Queensbury rules don't apply when your opponents eye-gouge. Don't Democrats recall that Bill Clinton's benign peccadillo, tens of millions of both sexes have engaged in it, brought on an almost interminable and costly investigation that almost cost him the presidency? The Democrats don't convert these "personal idiosyncrasies" into political weapons, or even raise these extremely weird behavior patterns as political issues that the public should investigate with great care.

If the Democrats don't stand up to those who have captured the Republican Party we will all have to rely on what Gore Vidal predicted to me would be the solution to the Bush madness. The real conservatives will have to step forward and deal with this ultra radical gang.

1. of course it depends on how bad it gets
Liberals do have some ideological predispositions not to be so absolutist in their arguments and fight with such fanaticism.... we really do value looking at multiple sides on issues, tolerating dissent, intellectual independence, etc. But if it gets bad enough I think we will rally together and with a rightwingesque pack mentality to fight the fascists.

2. NEVER!
Dem party is overrun with Christians. They have the same goal as Republicans, to create a theocracy. We are all good as doomed to their hate of liberty, democracy, and life. We need a 3rd party to replace both to protect life, democracy, and liberty from these traitors. America shouldn't become like the Middle East yet a religion from that region is here and will destroy evrything real AMericans fought for.

4. Not the same kind of Christians.
I'm a Christian and I don't want a theocracy. I don't want fascism.
My Christian beliefs teach that there is a separation of Chruch and State and this was even forwarded by Jesus, including the times he kicked the moneychangers from the Temple and spoke of the nation of Heaven as separate from the earth's nations.
I also don't believe in hating everyone and everything that is different from myself. Jesus told me to love, not spew a bunch of hate-filled rhetoric.
Believe me, there is quite a difference between the fundie nut jobs on the right and the quiet, reverent Christians on the left.

5. It is OUR Party - we set hte agenda and they will follow
We need to keep doing what we have been doing - the politicians do not set the agenda - WE DO. We keep pushing, they will follow. It is already happening. It is about the wisdom of the people. We are the people. We are the party of the people.
