27. we still love you, chalky--really we do
and you know degrees don't matter here--
what matters is your frame of reference, your point of view, your dreams and ideals, your ideas, your passion, your input.

those are the important things. and we all know that.

15. I'm at a fairly small ad agency.
Not a horrible gig. I don't care for some of the client's products.
Your girlfriend should make sure her portfolio is first class. And most art directors will look at your work and talk to you about it and give you advice. No job opening needed. Our creative department does it all the time. Sometimes it leads to at least a freelance project, and another piece for your portfolio.

Good luck to both of you!

Worked in PR/Media Relations for the Department of Energy and NASA. Then, switched to the high-tech arena--which was a blast.

For the past five years, I've been a stay-at-home mom to two lively preschool-aged girls.

17. No degree.
Raised to be an avid reader and critical thinker. Dropped out of college early due as much to boredom as anything else.

I'm something of a REAL old-school sci-fi author. Self-taught, anti-establishment, left-leaning moderate wacko. Would it mean anything to you to say Spider Robinson is one of my heroes?

Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite people ever.

I wrote a cycle called The Shark Charmer when my youngest son was obsessed with sharks. Books, bath toys, imaginary shark friends!. I began to dream sharks. And as I was writing poetry at the time, of course it all went into the work.

Hammerhead, bull. :)

My Bad Attitude (BA) is in math, is that a physical science or an "other"? I would make the physical science broad enough to include engineers and biologists - science and tech.
My Major A$$hole (MA) is in economics, I consider that a social science, but the University had it in the business school.

So I am going with social science.

49. double bachelor's, Russian lang. & chemistry, math minor.
With some engineering and computer science courses pitched in.

MA in Russian language and literature (literature option).

I'm currently ABD (officially, C.Phil., candidate in philosophy) for Slavic languages, with enough extra coursework in general linguistics to get me most of the way towards ABD in that field. I'm doing research in sentence processing.

Has it helped? Well, I like reading the literature some of the languages: some's really neat, and either untranslated or poorly translated. I'm also much more aware of some of the history and culture in Central Europe/Russia, and the problems.

It's gotten me some travel time abroad, the occasional fellowship dollar, some temporary university teaching gigs, and a bit of money here and there doing translation work. I'm still trying to get my translation credentials in good order, and get to submit a bid later today for the company I freelanced for last year. Maybe one more step to a staff position; probably not.
