Someone should organize an "Impeach Bush" march on DC, like
the peace marches before the Iraqi invasion.

Imagine millions of Americans marching on DC, New York, and Atlanta around CNN's headquarters, carrying signs about the DS "Memo." Maybe that would put more pressure on Bush to respond to Conyers' letter. It might also raise awareness of the issue, and might even gain momentum. Bush is down right now. Now is the time to go after him.

1. You know, they did have the "Million Man March" and people came out.
How about focusing it on the NY-DC corridor. That's not friendly territory for * and it's all connected by train (for a while anyway).

We need some heavy hiters to sponsor this...I'll go without a doubt.

2. ... and various signs that riff off "Memo," like
"We've read the memo" or "Downing Street Memo" or "Fucking LIAR!"

Mine will likely say: "Impeach!" on one side and "Genocide" on the other, or something to that effect.

I would love to see Candy Crawfish and Wolf Boy have to cross the marchers to get to work.

7. That's good, but I'd rather see it focus on impeachment
I think that would get more anger, more attention, and more immediate commentary.

I'd also like to see the big guys get it organized, to get more people. We need millions, like we had to protest the invasion in the first place. It can be done, if we give it the same energy we did before.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

9. An Impeachment Demo Would Be Small And Ineffective
Many more people are opposed to the war on and occupation of Iraq than favor the impeachment of Bush.

While you might get 10,000 or so at an impeachment demonstration you can get many more to participate in a anti-war march. And at the anti-war march you can organize a signficant impeachment contingent that will have more success in popularizing and winning support for the idea of impeachment.

10. You've got i backwards
Another peace march will get less attention. There is no urgent goal to motivate people, no clear-cut message to excite them. It will just be a sequel to the larger protests in 2003--which failed. A lot of people won't be motivated, feeling they won't be listened to no matter how many people turn out.

Since this invasion was Bush's, an Impeach Bush march would get out the peace protestors, please it will give a more clearcut plan of action. If sold right, it could mobilize more than another peace march, and it would have a more focused message--it could be seen as a popular movement, in fact, if done right. Picture the people marching in Serbia over Milosevic. Fewer people, but with a more immediate messge, could have a big impact.

The problem with bringing "Impeach Bush" signs to a peace rally is that they will be swallowed up in the other signs. The media would treat them as just symptoms of the generalized protest. Since no clear action--at least not an action that's likely to happen--would be proposed at such a rally, the media will just treat it as a minor interest story, like the people camping out to see Star Wars.

But a rally to Impeach Bush would raise questions about the memo, and about the invasion in the first place. It could give the Repubs pause, knowing our side found a way to get our message out without their media. It might make them hesitate before invading the next nation.

That's how I see it, anyway. That's what would mobilize me, and, from the role I've played as a leader of a 200 member local Democratic club, I think that's what would mobilize the moderate to liberal activists I know. I would cheer on a peace march, might even take part in it. But I would not get excited about it, because I don't think it would have any impact. Been there, done that, and all we got was a tee shirt.

Having said all that, I'll support the peace march. I just don't think it's going to be an effective demonstration.

14. I agree. This pResident and his administration betrayed our people!!!!
They didn't merely betray anti-war and peace activists or liberals or tree-huggers. They betrayed us ALL!!!

I do believe the time has come for organizing an call for impeachment. I would mobilize participation in and around the irresponsible CM that also failed us!!!

Edited on Tue May-31-05 12:24 PM by me b zola
All encompassing. No progressive group would feel left out or feel as though they are marching for a particular issue that they don't agree with.

Our (hubby & me)signs we will carry: Impeach Bush/memo & Bring our Troops Home NOW/Out of Iraq NOW.

Appears to be trying to organize a "Million Man" type march on DC over Labor Day.

I'd like to see that happen. Labor Day, VERY APPROPRIATE, IMHO!

The CM isn't going to pay attention to any of us unless it can't avoid us.

Also, we don't just want to impeach the mask, we want the neocons booted!

17. How about organizing your 200 member local Democratic club
to hold an "Impeach Bush" march at your Congress member's office? It would be difficult to ignore 200 demonstrators & might raise awareness locally... encouraging more constituents to join in the call for impeachment. At the very least you would be educating the public in regard to Bush's impeachable offenses.

18. We've organized more than that to protest Delay's redistricting
Does no good. The media can ignore 200 people when they want to, and they usually do if those 200 people are Democrats. Not that we could ever get all 200 people to agree on one thing.

The protest has to be too big to ignore.
