Poor Laura >>>
Edited on Tue May-24-05 09:38 AM by Stephanie

Her assistant is better dressed than she is.

And her makeup artist seems to have gone insane.

And why does almost everything she wears make her look so "hippy?"

today's creation was definitely made out of table cloths.

BTW: What's with the mouth? I guess she couldn't find her own lips this morning.

44. That's actually a good technique
If your lips are very thin, line them outside the actual lip and fill the outline in. This gives you the illusion of a normal mouth, at least from a distance--at five feet it's hard to tell you faked the lipline.

Laura Bush has normal lips, so doing this to her makes her look like Mick Jagger in Plum.

2. Huccome I don't hear the press making fun of her pantsuits?
The same way they made fun of Hillary for wearing them? Or, anybody recall Chris Matthews guffawing at length over Teresa Heinz Kerry's pashmina shawls? And rreally, to be honest, Laura Bush looks like crap in the pantsuits she chooses. The cut of this thing is incredibly unflattering -- imagine the view from the rear. Ugh.

37. It's not just the press. The chimperor issued a dress decree after
the 2000 selection.

<snip>

One of the very first decisions President Bush made after his inauguration was to reinstate the White House dress code.

<snip>

The dress code was established initially by the first Bush administration, and, at the time, it specified that women wear knee-length skirts and stockings in the West Wing. In other words, during the administrations of Ronald Reagan and Bush the Elder, only the boys wore pants. Because this was an idea whose time came -- and went -- in the Paleozoic era, the minor style revolution that followed with the election of Bill Clinton was totally inadvertent.

http://dir.salon.com/mwt/style/2001/04/16/dress_code/index.html

I wonder if he allows Pickles to wear pants in the West Wing.

so Laura could smoke in the family quarters.

Yes, she's a smoker. I don't think they're the little ones because she wouldn't have the Xanax Stare if that's what she smoked.

Besides, if Laura brought a bag of weed into the White House, George would smoke it all himself.

Mine are from the above plus smoking. Euuuuuuuuuuw. Hypnotist & Restylane here I come.

13. Laura Bush will be 60 years old next year
As with many post-menopausal women, the body changes. We get a little thick on the bottom and get a few wrinkles. I think a lot of women, both Democrats and Republican, try to dress more conservatively as they age. If she were anorexic or dressed inappropriately for her age, I'm sure there would be even more threads like this.

There is plenty to criticize about the Bush administration. How Laura Bush dresses, her weight, her make-up are not of interest to me.
Just because the Republicans were hateful about Hillary or Eleanor Roosevelt doesn't mean I have to stoop to that level.

I have always found these kinds of threads to be embarrassing.

Laura, her clothes and her looks. I don't particularly care for her, but she actually does not look too bad for her age. I find that as I am getting older that I must dress more conservatively. I can't get away with the thigh-high mini-skirts anymore.

for pushing 60 she looks good. I was just wondering why she can't find a better clothing designer. She could look a lot better than she does. A lot of what she wears is not flattering and she is a public figure, unlike any of us.

35. Agreed.
She's not unattractive, she just can't dress herself.

She needs a stylist! If she has no interest in style or fashion, she could easily hire someone to help. Shallow though it is, women are judged by their clothing, especially public figures like the First Lady.

Hell, she has DAUGHTERS! Evidently neither of her girls are her fashion police (I'm one of 3 girls, & if one of us wasn't dressed appropriately, we heard about it from Mom or our sisters!)

25. Historically a presidency is remembered for more than just the man
holding the office. First ladies are historic figures, too. And unfortuantely in our society, which is still sexist and paternalistic, first ladies set fashions, styles, cultural trends, etc. When Jackie Kennedy went to France and charmed Charles DeGaulle, that was actually helpful to US-French relations. When Dolly Madison saved the Washington painting, that was an act of historic heroism. Laura Bush is an embarrassment as an ambassador of style and as an historic figure. She stands for nothing and sets womens' rights back 50 years. She's worse than Nancy Reagan, who actually had some power.

28. I totally agree!
You know, I don't care what Bush or his wife look like...
I care what they DO, because that is what has lead us to the economic mess we are in, the Iraq war, and the destruction of the USA's reputation as a great, country based on high ideals, moral treatment of prisoners, and a bastion for the free press.

The fundraiser letters I get from the GOP have nasty pictures, very unflattering pictures, of all of our Democratic leaders to persuade their members even more so that Hillary, Kennedy, etc. are 'evil'.

Do we really need to emulate the WORST of the GOP??!!

I guess I thought the Democratic party was the party of reason... maybe I was wrong...

like McCain, Hagel... like in this past month, I've sent a bunch of e-mails begging them to leave the filibuster alone. I wrote to McCain about how dissapointed I was with his decision on Gonzales... etc.

The downside is, they include me on their mailing lists! The last thing I need right now is more junk mail...
