Idea! The only way to get rid of these Hypocritical "Support our Troops"..
...magnetic SUV "ribbons" is to ridicule them with some LW "ribbons." These RW SUV people "don't get" our criticism of these things, but if all stated getting them with ridiculous statements of hypocrisy (or statements of truth), I bet they would stop thinking they were "cool."

Remember "Baby on Board" signs? Once everyone stated putting other, ridiculous little yellow signs in our windows, they died quick.

Here's a site were you can make your own with whatever you want on it (up to 50 characters):

<http://www.supportourribbons.com/>

Here's one I thought up after reading an article where a environmental scientist summed up what he was going to speak about.

Here's a link to the article: <http://www.lightupthedarkness.org/blog/default.asp?view=plink&id=916>

You know, it's funny...I once knew a white supremicist (the father of a good friend) who swore up and down that movie was about the 'Zionist Conspiracy,' but I still think it's a warning about how easily we could be (and are being) duped. Similar arguments, different p.o.v. Even then I thought HIS buddies the Republicans (amazing how that works, isn't it?) were the real threat to freedom in this country.

41. Hey, that's something I can support. Unfortunately, these are
generated as .bmp files. I tried to convert to .jpg to embed the graphic but it wouldn't work. A .bmp file will stay a link. You need a .jpg or a .gif to see it within the post.

I think. I'm not exactly a techie. More like a technie spouse who pays half attention. Which is dangerous.

47. Once you make a ribbon on that site, if you have a PC...
just "right click" on the new ribbon (I don't know how this is done on a Mac) then choose either "Save Image As" or "View Image."

If you pick "View Image," all you have to do is copy the http:// address at the top of the browser, then paste it into your post, it's already a JPEG file. You might need to change the file name from .jpeg to .jpg ,it won't change the file, but sometimes programs don't understand .jpeg

If you pick "Save Image As," you can save it to your Hard Drive, but then you have to re-upload it to your ISP server (most ISP's give you at least 10-25Mb for this type of purpose), but you can resize the file or what ever, using this method.

Also, click the "HTML Lookup table" link (it's in the "Message options" line (just above the "Subject" and "message" windows you use to reply), it has a bunch of useful info (and html code) too.

Most of the ribbons I see here in Tennessee are on overpriced gas-guzzlers. Looking forward to a little bumper theatre balance.

Since I already have an orange ribbon hanging from my rear view mirror, this might make it easier for the Rethugs to get the point.

http://www.supportourribbons.com/maker_show.php?id=7592

(Since I can't figure out how to copy and paste the image, mine is an orange ribbon with the words "SUPPORT HONEST ELECTIONS".)

87. My favorite is
"My Ribbon Can Beat Up Your Jesus Fish."

I am a Christian who is weary of the omnipresent Jesus fish and the omnipresent American flags and I Support the Troops stickers. My dad was career military so I know how little respect most civilians have for military men or their families.

My dad used to tell of times in the Thirties and Forties, maybe early Fifties, when everyone on base got their pay in cash and all in $2 bills to show the local community how much money the military put into their economy. It didn't end discrimination against the military, of course. I don't believe the people with ribbons on their cars are any different; I think they'd say "Not In My Backyard" to a military base.

Don't tell me with a sticker on your car that you're a Christian or a patriotic American, show me by your actions.

104. Remind them that the little ribbon twist symbol
was originally used as a perpetual reminder about AIDS, followed by a pink version for breast cancer.

Yeah, there were yellow ribbons in the past (who can forget the Iran hostage situation of 1979-80?), but they were tied around trees and lamp posts. That particular configuration of ribbon came out of the homersexshul community.

This is an idea to shame or embarrass the people who buy and put these jingoistic ribbons on their SUVs instead of actually do as you suggest, send money actual troops or troops families. Hopefully this will lead to the quiet disappearance of these stupid magnetic ribbons.

And the website, I think, is NOT a mega Corporation, but some small business people with a great idea.

That's what I have on my cars.

It took a little time to find the right one. The first one I found had Bring Them Home Now. I wanted to avoid the debate of leaving immediately versus a meaningful policy geared towards rapidly (even if not immediately) internationalizing the effort and getting most of our troops out.
