Saddam's Picture
This morning NBC's Today show lead off its show with coverage of the fact that pictures of Saddam, some of which show him in his underwear, were released. Am I the only person who thinks this story was not news worthy. Also, Matt Lauer asked the lawyer for Saddam if he thought that the military released these pictures deliberately. He (Lauer) theorized the the military might have done this to slow, stop, or weaken the insurgency. I would not be surprised if these pictures were released deliberately, but I think if this happened in was the White House that ordered in and not the military. I contend that the military is smart enough to know that showing pictures of Saddam in his underwear will not end the insurgency in Iraq. It seems to me that they (the military) would think these pictures would cause people to be even more angry in that they may see this as the embarrassment of another Arab.

2. US Protests Saddam Pics -- Military saya might be violation of Geneva
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7917696/

LONDON - The U.S. military acknowledged Friday that a photo of ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in his underwear, which a British tabloid newspaper published on its front page, was real and said it was "aggressively" investigating how it could have been taken and by whom.

The Sun newspaper said it obtained that and other photos from "U.S. military sources," adding it would publish more photos on Saturday.

Those sources, the Sun stated, said they were handing over the pictures “in the hope of dealing a body blow to the resistance in Iraq.”

The Sun's front-page photo Friday shows Saddam clad in only his underwear. Other photos inside the paper show Saddam washing clothing by hand and sleeping in bed.

A lawyer for Saddam said he intended to sue the newspaper and possibly the U.S. military.
