Got Theocracy? My experience at a "Pastor's Breakfast" this morning>
My company set up a booth for a Pastor's Breakfast at the Hilton at Easton in Columbus OH. I was conscripted into attending. So I get there at about 600AM, grab some coffee and wait for the pastors to enter at 630. 630AM rolls around, and here they come, 500 of them, strutting sancimoniously, bibles in hand, hair neatly parted on the right, glad-handing PRAISE JESUS etc. The initial flood of piety began to break up once the doors to the banquet halls opened for breakfast, so I stood at the door listening for the list of businesses participating in the event. The first speaker was a pastor who introduced, "A great man..."

NONE OTHER THAN, ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?!?!?!?

SECRETARY OF STATE KEN FUCKIN' BLACKWELL!!!

to ROARING APPLAUSE! (except for you know, the representatives of the black churches, who feigned approval by politely, albeit nearly silently, going through the motions of clapping)

and this is the best part:

"...and I hope he can count on your vote for GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF OHIO!"

Excuse me while I :puke:

Whitewell just stood up and soaked it in. He didn't speak, at least not while I was there. I left shortly afterword.

Here's the real kicker? Ever heard of the "Patriot Pastors"???
I found this on Kos: (thanks Rene'in Ohio)
"Rising from the vacuum of prophetic witness, is the ultra-right wing politics of intimidation and hate. A movement calling itself "Patriot Pastors" is now mobilizing (mostly rural Christians) to gather thousands of " Ohio for Jesus" pastors and tens of thousands of lay people calling themselves "Christian Minutemen."

Called the Ohio Restoration Project, this group intends to take over the Republican Party in Ohio . Once they have done this through electoral primaries, they will also run all Democrats off the state map.

Their plan is to run good people out of office if they are pro-choice or supportive of equal rights for gays. In their website, these so-called Patriot Pastors will "shoot down" any politicians or candidates who they deem "vague or noncommittal on issues of abortion and gay rights."

They have transportation set up for the elderly and child care for the young to attend their "God Rallies." Rod Parsley of World Harvest Church in Canal Winchester is their leader. In his book Silent No More, Parsley outlines which issues will either drive people from office or put them in office. Republicans who were once considered right-wing radicals in Ohio , like Sen. Jim Jordan of Champaign County , are moving into key leadership positions in our statehouse five blocks west of First Church . These "Patriot Pastors" are a scary lot. Issue #1, which they say restored "Biblical marriage" to Ohio , was step one in their politics of fear and (so-called) "Family values." Issue #2 says Parsley is to take back the state."
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/5/14/10582/0454
Well they were there in FULL FORCE, recruiting these poor saps for the Christian Taliban. :puke:
I left my booth and went home. My company is upset that we weren't told this was a Christo-Fascist-Political event. We're in the process of getting to the bottom of it right now. *shakes head* I'm telling you now, we gotta watch out for these people.

Why? They'll scream persecution even though it's far from the case. They'll find a rightwing extremist judge who will rule in their favor and they'll ruin the other person in public.

I also agree in regards to yanking the tax exemption away from churches - but you know that will happen when Bush's girls volunteer to serve their country in Iraq!
Wonder when/if other people will realize what is quietly overtaking this country and if they even CARE?

Was the entire audience aware of the nature of this breakfast or were many of them surprised also?

eta - would you mind if I copy your post to another forum that would be interested in the subject? Either in whole (attributed to you) or in part with a link here? Thanks.

12. We're trying to find out why Whitewell was there in the first place..he's
not a pastor. I also think that pig Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church was also there. It was my understanding that this event was for "small" churches.

This event was sponsored by WFRD in columbus. It's the "christian" radio station. If we find out this was just a cover up for Whitewell, they can kiss our advertizing dollars goodbye. We pulled all of our ads from Sinclair stations when they ran that hit piece on JK.

Blackwell's their boy:
Blackwell for Governor site's newroom. look for the newsroom item from 3-27-2005 titled, "Conservative churches to flex muscle; Pastors statewide organizing effort to elect candidates."

and there's this bit of WTF on the official Ohio Sec'y of State site; on the homepage are links to: vote, start a business, run for office, and build character

ETA: I'm having trouble getting the press release to show up through the link for some reason, but if you google for it using the press release title, it should be the first one on the search results.

73. Easily bought ministers could backfire against CONs.
If we fight back.

To be sure they have unsavory persons running these shows. The money could come from any CON source, even drug money, filtered through advertising at a radio station. All the ministers see is donated free food.

Donors are unquestionably GOOD people to ministers. Once the crowd mentality is set, they each reinforce the others as to the unquestionable goodness of those donors.

No thought of a money trail enters their minds.

That's exactly what they appear to be to my eyes. These groups applaud Blackwell's efforts for fraud and discrimination in the election. They think he is a god icon type figure.

None of these radicals would likely be gaining such positions if all the Triad machines weren't used in every county. That's getting pretty frightening I'm afraid.

Blackwell is connected into something really, really dirty in Ohio...

I watched him on one of those Xtian channels once whipping up a crowd of fundies into a lather with a sermon about how "Christ wants you to be wealthy". It was fucking disgusting. Over and over he would repeat "Christ wants you to have wealth, and someday we are going to take it".

It sounded as if he advocating forcibly taking property from the non-believers.

47. what was needed to get us to this place in time...
We've always had extremists, Birchers, theocrats, fascists and the like out there but they stayed where they belonged, a very, very small minority. A minority that the media new to ignore or expose because they were...well, "extremists" who the majority knew full well would take our republic wildly off course.

IMHO, They needed two main ingredients for what I call their "theofascist" movement to gain control of our nation.

One. They needed a political environment where they could operate without fear of being exposed for the un-American and constitution subverting group which they so plainly are. This "environment" would support or stand by as they spread the disinformation and blatant lies to which they are so closely associated today. Through this cult like information control, they would be able to con more people into supporting their cause or worse, hoodwink them into silence. In this environment, they are able to convince enough of middle America that the "theocratic option" may be the lesser of two evils. The choices of evils being an Americanized theofascist state masquerading as a democracy or the picture of ALL other options created in their minds by the "environment."

Two. The Moral Majority was a floundering joke in the early eighties when this theocratic movement took hold and sure there are a lot of players. But the movement needed someone to bring them together for power, someone to show them how the game is played. They needed someone to raise them up by bringing them together and by showing them how to operate in the political field. They needed a straw to stir the theofascist drink or the Republican Party would have never nominated someone like a Bush. Without the straw, 2000 would have been a race between a Democrat and a Republican, not a Democrat and a Theofascist. 2000 would never have happened until the political climate was changed drastically from what it was 20 years prior.

In short, they needed a Savior.

which is now being pushed by Protestant denominations, who don't look deeper into the story. See

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=226&topic_id=2180#

And read Steven Wohlberg's excellent book End Time Delusions.

These adherents of a secret pre-tribulation Rapture are in for a HUGE surprise. Politically, Dems and progressives should be steeping themselves into the history and political impact of the Left Behind eschatology, which is really repackaged Jesuit (Ribera) Counter-Reformation misinterpretation of Daniel and Revelation (in order to protect the Papacy).

They almost succeeded !

68. goodboy, Great POST !
You can also google up "Futurist" and "Francisco Ribera" and look up the Jesuits during the counter reformation.

Besides this book the most inflamatory book I've seen is Perfectly Legal by David Cay Johnston.

I know that many Catholics will be upset by the Wohlberg book but they need to read what he says.

The two great pillars that Rove's Republican edifice rest upon are this Left Behind 'futurist' eschatology AND the phony supply-side/free-market-populism . These two books can, like Samson of long ago, topple those pillars.

74. Good work, goodboy. Here's the scoop
The Wohlberg book shows from the Bible itself that the Second Coming isn't going to be a quiet event. Besides that, the self-centeredness of the whole Left-Behind view (as with Reagan era James Watt, the Interior Sec who would let the environment go to pot...why bother, I'm being raptured anyway) mentality isn't something Jesus would approve of.

This book deserves to be read by believers and non-believers alike. Jesus was pro-truth and in the end, the truth wins out. An old police detective friend of mine used to say that all the time. Be persistent.

50. This guy, Darby from England started this whole
delusional shit. http://www.sullivan-county.com/news/cathouse/darby.htm He even looks like a real creep...We should start where ever and whenever we can to tear down these believes, keep up the dialog that the Bible they love to preach doesn't even mention "The Rapture" that it was "invented" by a man in England by the name of Darby that wanted to control allot of people, and they fell for it, and how does it feel being a real fool, following false Prophets?

67. Sorry, it is Jesuit Franciso Ribera who began the 'futurist' eschatology
See the book End Time Delusions by Steven Wohlberg or his website

http://www.endtimeinsights.com/site/v2_3/content/view/31/63/

You can also google 'futurism' and Jesuit Francisco Ribera for that matter. 'Futurism' and 'preterism' were invented by the Jesuits during the Counter-Reformation in order to take the heat off the Papacy as to the true identity of 'antichrist'. Futurism posits a future coming of the antichrist and the necessity for a Third Temple (along with destruction of the existing Al Aqsa Mosque currently occupying the site). Preterism basically puts Nero, the Roman Emperor as the antichrist. Historicism puts the Papacy as the antichrist, as the Reformation preachers interpreted scripture as showing.

This also shows why the Knights Templar, who are mainly identified as the modernday Freemasons-- who were supposedly persecuted, by the Pope Clement V and French King Philip IV, out of existence.

They survived and most revolutions from the 1700s until now were led by Freemasons: Washington, Diaz, Bolivar, Garibaldi, Kerensky...you get the picture ?

Also, look into the reason why the 'Pope's Stone' was stolen from Washington Monument and you can see why the anti-papacy view of our country from founding until the end of WWII -- with accompanying Protestant historicist eschatology.

Nowadays, Protestant denominations are pushing the 'futurist' view without thought as to the origins. This made our country easy pickings with the CIA's need for 'useful' doctrines. I hear that Hal Lindsey is a CIA consultant; and the 'need' for a Third Temple in the Middle East is just dandy as an excuse for incursions in that region.

51. Sad to say, Ohio is far from alone
Edited on Fri May-20-05 03:17 PM by KamaAina
Our Lt. Gov. (R-Duh!) is mixed up in similar hijinks - and it took a columnist, rather than a news reporter, to out him, much like it took a DUer on the scene to out Whitewell.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Ohio MSM to jump on this; the Cincy Enquirer had a column yesterday that read like a tract from some fundie church near there. :puke:

Edit: Thread on Enquirer column is here:

but be sure to ask your flight attendant for a fresh motion sickness bag before clicking :puke: :puke: :puke:

54. Notify the MSM by any means possible
never mind about the Sinclair station (6?); concentrate on the others. How's the Columbus Dispatch the days?

As I just posted above, similar shenanigans have been going on in Hawai'i for months, involving our (R) Lt. Gov., and it finally got in the major paper only because a columnist picked up on it. If not for him, they might have been able to keep their whole drive for theocracy completely off the radar screen. :scared:

56. The group intends to take over the Republican Party in Ohio?
A similar group did that in Texas. One factor leading to the growth of Republican power in Texas was Civil Rights--but "Christians" also played a part. From "A Christian Looks at the Religious Right"--read "The Republican Party and the Southern Baptist Convention."

Fundamentalist leader, attorney Walter Carpenter, responded to an article I wrote in the "Houston Post" listing SBC and Republican Party links by admitting that the endorsement of Republican candidates by SBC leaders was only going to increase.

While Jimmy Carter was President, the first electing of a fundamentalist President took place in the SBC. Adrian Rogers was elected and Carter sought to reach out a hand of help and fellowship to the new SBC head. Rogers shocked Carter by demanding that Jimmy quit promoting Secular Humanism as the religion of America. Carter was puzzled at such talk but, near the end of 2000, decided he had had enough of the SBC. Is it any wonder why he has left the denomination of his entire life.

Of course, young Bush "found Jesus" just after the Texas Republicans did.

Good Luck!

to talk to some new prospects, and sell product. My company is not happy that this turned out to be some kind of political thing.

77. What was funny is that the Pastors from the African-American
churches were less than amused that Whitewell was there. After all, he did disenfranchise thousands of them in the last election. He's a typical uncle tom- He's only black on the outside.

63. I'd laugh if this wasn't so SCARY! Highway to Hell Town!
My pal, SHRED turned me onto this site... Egging me on until I relented and had to jump in... By golly, what we have growing in this country are a bunch of religious zealots, all marching to the beat of some insane drummer.

If I had even been asked to attend such a thing:
1) I would have gone mental and done that thing that Curly does when he spins around on the floor squealing.

2) Been taken there against my will at gun point.

If I did manage to force myself to go, due to some sense of servitude to my evil overlords, I would have been carted out like Hannibal Lecter on that refrigerator dolly.

I feel your pain. Are you still employed GoodBoy?

60 Minutes is canceled on Wednesday night so they can bring us Mandy Patinken as a singing FBI profiler "To appeal to a broader audience..." Never mind reporting news any more... This has Cop Rock written all over it. Jezzuss!

It all started with Highway to Heaven which was followed by Robert Blake in; Hell Town making that night of TV viewing called Highway to Hell Town...

BY GOD... IT'S ALL MICHAEL LANDON'S FAULT! AND HE'S BEEN DEAD FOR A VERY LONG TIME!:banghead:
