Should I send this letter to Coleman? (almost final draft)

Dear Senator Coleman,

So how’s it feel to be afraid?

That was you, running with tail firmly affixed between legs out of the Galloway hearings this morning, wasn’t it? I know you were there, for I saw and heard your stammering and stuttering as you sat and watched the facts get laid bare right it front of you, wrapped up in a Scottish brogue and served with the beverage of your choice.

What happened today was simply this: somebody got up in front of America and told the truth. Someone, finally, did not care how the Bush Administration would attack them, or did not care how it would affect their committee assignments, or their re-election, or their fundraising. No, what happened today was that someone got before you, looked you straight in the eye, and said what millions of us out here have known for years: George W. Bush and everyone in his absurdly corrupt administration lied. Not once, mind you - not even twice, but time after time after time. Someone took off the blinding hood of terror, terror, terror, each day, every day, 24/7 and told you that the Iraq war was fait accompli long before Bush and the rest of Chickenhawk Central decided to play fast and loose with the truth, knowing full well that Americans would rally ‘round the flag, and that countless numbers of her youth would believe in their commander-in-chief and volunteer to do the work that he was too afraid to do when his time came.

What you saw today was someone who would not be cowered by you and your fellow Republicans laughable attempts at interrogation. What happened – didn’t you get today’s talking points in time? How did it feel to have someone spin you like a child’s top while laying to waste every pitiful sham of an excuse you and your ilk have used to keep this nation in a perpetual state of panic? Did you like his comparisons of his meeting with Hussein vs. that of Mr. Rumsfeld? Did his spot-on denouncements of U.S. profiteering in Iraq give you pause for concern? Perhaps his complete command of the facts re: torture and terrorism made you think? Saudi Arabia? WMD? Surely something had to connect with you?

Sadly, nothing did. When faced with someone armed with both a pot full of truth and the ladle to dish it out with, you did your master’s bidding and stopped the show. Like Mr. Bush and his pre-screened sign this or go home scripted to the nth degree “town meetings’, you needed a home crowd in order to look good. When you found out the other team actually showed up, you did what any Bush-fearing Republican would do. You quit. You quit, and now you look towards Daddy and all his friends to make Mr. Galloway look like the bad guy, while you (probably) show up on some bozo’s radio show to rehabilitate yourself.

Your behavior disgusts me, Mr. Coleman, it truly does. May the citizens of your state soon see you for the apologist that you are, bereft of answers and sitting at the teat of George Bush, waiting for 1600 to pull your strings and make you dance.

Heaven help us all.

Just too, too funny.

33. watch it with broadbrushing the whole state
unless, of course, you want to take responsiblity for delivering Indiana for Bush. We in MN didn't do that.

Coleman won because of a tragedy combined with ugly Rethuglian tactics. I personally despise him and take no responsibility for his being in office.

I write or call his office every day, not because I think he will listen but because I want him to know he is being watched and that he is not working for Minnesotans.

40. I am with katinmn on this
There were a lot of slimey, underhanded tactics at work right after Wellstone died, that handed Toady Coleman the keys to Wellstone's seat.

I write Coleman a letter at least once a week. He, in all likelihood, will not be re-selected.

42. Great Message. But, please fax it because emails pile up over
days and I think they delete most of them. Faxing it assures there is another person receiving your message.

Also, remind him that Al Franken WILL beat him and you hope he has enjoyed his little visit to the House because since he has not contributed in any way, there will be no way he could be reelected, that is, unless you use the funny little machines that Bush & Cheney, Inc. used.

Did you hear Galloway challenge Coleman on his campaign finances and his trips paid for by Israel? I've looked at every site and it's not mentioned. Galloway said he had looked at his campaign contributions online. Would love to have a transcript of this hearing.

I applaud your writing. Send it, but I doubt he will ever see it. It will make you feel better. Maybe some newspapers will print it if they even know anything about today's hearing.

26. Here's Coleman after the hearings
Edited on Tue May-17-05 01:51 PM by Oreo
Spineless weasel
http://www.startribune.com/stories/1762/5408402.html

Coleman later questioned Galloway's testimony. "If in fact he lied to this committee, there will have to be consequences,'' Coleman said at a news conference after the hearing.

Asked whether Galloway violated his oath to tell the truth before the committee, Coleman said: "I don't know. We'll have to look over the record. I just don't think he was a credible witness.''

What kind of consequences Normie? The same ones Colin Powell faced after lying to the UN or do you mean the consequences Condi faced for lying to the 9/11 Commission?

28. Respectfully disagree
Though I'm not saying that your points are invalid, this letter won't get you anywhere. The best that you can hope for is that some minor functionary will read a line or two past "So how's it feel to be afraid" before either throwing it in the trash or handing it over to the FBI as a threat-letter. Maybe, if you're really lucky, you'll get a Dear Citizen, thanks for your interest form letter in response.

I concur with your sentiments, but I don't agree that this letter will come across as anything but a rant, however well-intentioned.

30. Can I be a grammarian? (Kick-ass letter, though!)
Paragraph 1 - "Tail firmly between legs"?

Paragraph 3 - " . . . someone who would not be cowed . . . " instead of "cowered".

Paragraph 4 - pre-screened-sign-this-or-go-home-scripted-to-the-nth-degree "town meetings".

Sheesh, once an English teacher, always an English teacher . . .

But, seriously kick-ass letter. Your name wouldn't be Galloway, would it? :hi:
