What they have stolen from us is our hope for the future.

By systematically dismantling of our economy,by bankrupting us through their wars,by belittling education and healthcare for people young and old,by dividing us using religious and sexually inspired wars,not to mention racial code words, they have taken away what has been the characteristic American trait:hope and optimism.

In this wreckage,what is a win for these megalomaniacs? Complete rout of the Arabs in Iraq?or a complete defeat of the Liberals at home? And a complete destruction of our Constitutional Rights?

The endless enemies these people have says more about them than anyone else.

1. I cannot disagree with your very well written post.
Sitting here typing, I have lost all hope. I am not optimistic about the future of this nation, our children, or even the continued existance of humankind.

I think our grandchildren will curse our names for the fact that we will be leaving them a world bereft of beauty, resources or hope. We are leaving them economic and environmental devastation.

2. When I go to India or China on business, I see the hope in the faces of
millions in those countries.These are the people who,just a generation ago were without hope.They have, through education, hard work and dedication transformed themselves.You can sense that the future clearly belongs to them.We, who led the world, are now, through the vanity and folly of a cabal,have lost that hope.

has some radioactive megatonnage addressed to these locales which will wipe the hope off these people's faces as they are vaporized.

You don't really think he is willing to "vice preside" over "the greatest nation on earth" as it goes through the equivalent of Chapter 11 reorganization, do you?

Why invade a country for oil? Not to benefit any random citizen. It's to make money for you, your family and your friends.

Why demolish the Social Security safety net? To make money for you, your family and your friends.

We could go on and on...and on.

If you've ever read Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy, you ought to remember this quote (paraphrased by my lazy ass...sorry):

"The old system was designed to reward those who knew how to break the rules".

This fits our social structure *perfectly*...those who play by the rules will always be at a disadvantage. Their moralty will be used against them. This is why, IMO, we cannot produce a Karl Rove type as easily. We are always at a disadvantage to the "Will to Power" fuckers.

5. I don't think you can take away hope and optimism
At least not permenantly. I mean you can get down, sure. It happens. But the only way for you to lose hope permenantly is to give it away. There have been people in a lot worse situations than we are who have kept on keeping on.
