On Bolton
recently some senator stated that Bolton was what we got, if we waited until a "perfect" nominee were appointed we would be waiting forever

seems pretty lame to me -- it's like throwing up your hands and saying "oh well, it's all we got..."

just a thought - if you want to take the real measure of a person, don't watch how he treats his equal or superiors, watch how he treats his lessers...

2. Oh great, the "Rumsfeld defense"
You go to the UN with the diplomat you have, not the diplomat you may need or want.

3. Very lame . His confirmation would/will be
disastrous IMO! No, we deserve someone with a shred of diplomacy and, dare I hope, compassion, and Bolton does not fit that bill.

4. Even his superiors at the State Department found him abrasive

and this is not a quality you ever want in a man filling a diplomatic post.

We will undoubtedly get just as much of an ideologue if the Bolton nomination fails. However, a less abrasive, abusive one would be a distinct improvement.

5. Wes Clark said almost the same thing as you just did

Clark also voiced his concerns about Bush's nomination of John Bolton to United Nations ambassador, calling Bolton "somewhat of a bully."

"He's going to have a very tough time in the United Nations," Clark said. "When you come in with that much overhang, with all this reputation against you, it's that much more difficult. And all that's known in the United Nations.

"Personally, I don't like bullies," he added. "Just because you outrank somebody doesn't mean you don't respect them and their judgment."

Bush's nomination of Bolton was voted out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday but is unlikely to come before the full Senate before the end of May.

6. Said this before...
Bolton is the asshole the rest of the world is expecting Bush to send. A nominee with integrity would not be able to work for this regime. He(she) would be forced to lie and demean themselves.

The UN ambassador is the representative of the President. So it is appropriate, in this case, that he be an asshole and an ignoramus.

Let's concentrate on blocking asshole judges. That's serious business.
