Conyers interviewed by CNN about Downing Street memo

White House Press Briefing and CNN
Dowining Street Memo Gaining Traction
Also: Newsweek Koran Story

I am advised that White House spokesman Scott McClellan was asked about the Downing Street memo today. His response was "the decisionmaking process was publicly documented." I am not really sure what that means.

His non-answer answer seems to have done a favor for us though, as I have been receieving more press inquiries about this matter. I was just interviewed by CNN for the 5pm edition of Wolf Blitzer Reports. From my conversation with the reporter and my staff's conversation with the producer, it seems that they are pretty well versed about this matter. My web volunteers will try to post video of this interview later tonight.

On another matter, there are howls of outrage from the White House about a Newsweek report alleging abuse of the Koran by U.S. forces. The White House is attacking the report, and Newsweek is expressing regret about problems with its sourcing. The whole matter is puzzling to me. The Newsweek story may have its problems, but is it really that implausible, or that unprecedented or unique? Does the White House have any comment about all of these other incidents?

3. Excellent
the decisionmaking process was publicly documented

Hmm, this part wasn't exactly publicly documented. Does anybody have a prior link of this memo?

But he's doing great. Sooner or later they have to give a real answer...

6. You mean the part where (Infofabrication)
Edited on Mon May-16-05 02:15 PM by Generator
They decided to make up whatever was necessary to scare Americans shitless into buying that Saddam was this close to having a nuclear bomb? Or chemical and other scarey biological weapons that would make your trip to Disneyland less than the happiest place on earth?

You mean the pack of lies that Colin Powell told the UN?

The false claims in the state of the union address?

Let's see: does INFORMATION count if it's totally false and used by those that know it's false to people that don't know it's false?

Is that a lie? Is that public decision making? Falsehoods that let us come to the wrong conclussion?

That part about making the intelligence fit the doom so the doom could be sold as plausible? That part..mmm don't think so, SCOTTY.

9. All those lies will come back to haunt them
Maybe I'm an optimist, but those questions will be asked one day and one day they'll have to answer them

7. we live in country that operates in 2 different sets of factual reality
though I'm not excusing the botched Koran story if it's true, it changes very little in terms of what the press DOESN'T talk about.

This is a big problem. The Right-Wing is always ready to point out liberal media bias. Fine, it happens. And it happens the other way too. the Right, however, overlooks how much doesn't get reported that is quite damaging to the GOP...like the Downing St. Memo. We've had TONS of these cases over the last 5 years.

The real problem is a bias for laziness and acquiescence on the crucial issues. The press will dig into silly stories, some of them favor the left and some the right. But the real issues, the ones that would shake the very foundations of daily life and public attitudes get very little coverage or are plain ignored. THESE issues, in not being covered, save the Bush Admin., the political elite and the GOP's daily routine a lot of face and grief.

If these stories were properly covered, the public would wake up and hold ALL in power accountable. The problem is that many big buck advertisers were simply go elsewhere and some journalists would hurt their careers...$$$$$$$$$$!!!!

11. I repeat...
I just posted my feelings @ Conyersblog. I will briefly recap. I would direct all to the well documented items at Raw, the issue should not be about this one "unsubstantiated" story, but should be about all the others that have documentation. I have great confidence in Mr. Conyers, but it is my sincere hope that rightwing wolf will not put his own spin on everything. We have seen it happen too many times not to be worried about it. I am finally seeing what Understanding Life is trying to get us to all understand- bu$h himself needs to be held accountable, bu$h himself needs to answer these questions. He is not the idiot that I have believed him to be, I am the butt of his sick sense of power because I didn't think he was smart enough to plan and carry out all he is responsible for doing. We must find a way to IMPEACH NOW.

14. Don't expect much from Blitzer
He'll mangle the whole thing. View with low expectations. I suppose it's good that the story is on the air, but I'm wondering what angle Wolf will take to discredit the information.

Maybe it'll go like this:
"I'm Wolf Blitzer. And now hard news from CNN(TM). Allegations have been sworling around liberal representative John Conyers since he pounced on a leaked memo published in a foreign tabloid. Mr. Conyers is using this information to smear President Bush"
