Condi-"This war came to us" on CNN Int'l website
"I want you to keep focused on what you are doing here," Rice told the diplomats and troops who gathered in one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces. "This war came to us, not the other way around."

Hello? Anyone home? Can she be talking about the war in Iraq? Nope, don't think so.

4. The other way in which she's right
is that the NeoCons had gotten their panties in such a twist to invade Iraq that nothing else was going to give them any relief.

51. This is what we need to remind people of:
During the years of fascism, this is what they said and did. They created a rukus to inspire nationalism. Then they used that excuse as a means to attack a sovereign nation. It is a ruse as old as time. This is not specific to Hitler's Germany, but if you research wars from Ancient times through now, you will see the Machavelian misuse of peoples' nationalist "protectionism" abused by those in power.

We need to pound the streets with this information. Though whatever an "impeachment" would or would not do to help us, we've got to get people INFORMED by time we have the midterm elections, so each of us can vote with the facts.

Please get involved in activism. With activist working locally, we can effectively use the next year to inform, convert, and activate people. We NEED to get our democracy back!

Please join the Democracy Cell Project too. We all work together--D.U., DCP, Kos, Atrios, Rawstory, NashuaAdvocate, et al to teach. But the DCP is extremely focused on providing help to make us all effective advocates.

3. repeat the lie often enough and people believe it - like Hitler did....
she has stated the lie, it has been spread thru the media, the lie is not challenged...it is become TRUE. Like Hitler said, if you're gonna lie, tell a big lie so people will swallow it.

9. Chevron had named an oil tanker after condi..

more proof that bribes do pay-off...and Chevy benefitted from Iraq sanctions...

http://www.tacitus.org/story/2004/10/11/143852/83
"Major American oil companies and a Texas oil investor were among those who received lucrative vouchers that enabled them to buy Iraqi oil under the U.N. oil-for-food program, according to a report prepared by the chief arms inspector for the CIA.
The 918-page report says that four American oil companies - Chevron, Mobil, Texaco and Bay Oil - and three individuals, including Oscar S. Wyatt Jr. of Houston, were given vouchers and got 111 million barrels of oil between them from 1996 to 2003. The vouchers allowed them to profit by selling the oil or the right to trade it.

Chevron has been subpoenaed by "a federal grand jury in New York, which is investigating 'transactions in oil of Iraqi origin.'"
Troubling.

So guess who may have been involved in undermining the sanctions program, which I suppose is our latest casus belli?

That's right, your National Security Advisor, Condi Rice, who was a Director at Chevron from 1991 to 2001. Chevron liked her so much, they even named an oil tanker after her. Did the Condoleezza Rice carry Saddam's dirty oil?"

19. Interesting
I bet that was one reason why the oil companies weren't for Bush's "private" oil plans. What is it with them and being private? Oy. They didn't get any of it and they helped Condi get where she is today. They wanted some payback. Since a lot of these companies were involved in the "oil-for-food" scandal why did they have it? Wasn't someone from Texas involved in the scandal who was linked to Bush?

21. Yep
Reminds me of a passage from the Bible in the book of Proverbs (which was written by King Solomon). I'll share it with you. It's from the first chapter. The college class at my church is studying this book now and it's a really great book and one of my favorite's (next to psalms). I'll share this with you:
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot on their paths;

16 for their feet rush into sin,
they are swift to shed blood.

17 How useless to spread a net
in full view of all the birds!

18 These men lie in wait for their own blood;
they waylay only themselves!

19 Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the lives of those who get it.

15. You have to remember their thinking
Wrong as they may be, they look at the war in Iraq as part of the overall war on terrorism, post 9/11. That's why she's saying that, b/c the main talking point from the Bush crime team is that they didn't ask for the war on terror.

Condi Rice is so full of shit. And as an African-American woman, I am particularly ashamed of her. She really could be using her position as SOS to be doing some good around the world, and she's not.

They really did. Condi ignored the 9/11 BinLaden memo that they receieved. They didn't look at any of Clinton's intelligence or plans and they ignored Richard Clarke. If they didn't ignore him even 9/11 could've been prevented. Lying bitch.

34. You hit the nail on the head! Exactly right!
Richard Clarke asks for an urgent and important principles' level meeting in January 2001, to discuss Osama and Al-Qaeda. He is rebuffed, told it was inappropriate of him, but finally gets a meeting a few days before 9/11.

Bush still stays on vacation in spite of the August 6 PDB.

So you're right, they did ask for the war on terror.

If the reality is inconvenient, simply invent a lie that makes it convenient-- poof!-- instant paradigm shift. That's how we can rationalize bombing the the Iraqi populace into "democracy."

invasion and occupation of all our major cities. Glad to be rid of them. Now it's payback time.

Or:

What? You say that no Iraqi citizen has ever killed an American? That's just crazy talk. Saddam tried to kill our ex-President. Doesn't that count for something? Well, I say that anybody from any country that even attempts to kill an American of any sort said country should be bombed into the Stone Age!

See, if we kill everybody that doesn't agree with us there will be no more wars. We are the peacemakers. Don't you get it?

We have worked very hard to make Iraq a terrorist haven and taunted Islam so that war profits would be at an all time high. Remember, if we didn't fight them over there we would be fighting them in the streets of USA! I wonder if they will get away with all this revisionist history crap?

42. She's still working for Big Oil...
Edited on Sun May-15-05 02:15 PM by Amonester
... and Big Oil is now in the bloodied hand$ of the criminal Liar$

<snip>

Neither Hitler’s attack on Poland, nor President Bush’s planned attack on Iraq can be justified as "self-defence." They are each, clear-cut examples of the launching of a war of aggression. In Hitler’s case the prize was the re-connection of Germany with East Prussia and the seizure of Poland itself as a big, resource rich agricultural prize for colonization and eventual use as a forward base for launching the attack on Russia.

In Bush’s case, the prize is Iraq’s gigantic petroleum reserves which amount to at least 18 cubic km of easily extracted oil. Compare this to US reserves of 4 cubic km of oil with very high extraction costs. Also, with U.S. forces in control of Iraq and already deployed in the Caspian area and in Afghanistan, the last remaining oil prize, Iran, will be hemmed in on three sides. The issue that motivates this planned aggression, is not "weapons-of-mass-destruction:" it is "resources-of-mass-attraction."

But what about the legalities of a war of aggression?

In 1945, at the end of World War II, Nazi German leaders were put on trial by the U.S.A, Soviet Union, Britain and France at the War Crimes Tribunal at Nuremberg. It is interesting to recall what this tribunal said about the waging of a war of aggression:

"To initiate a war of aggression," declared this Tribunal in its judgment, "is the supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

The Chief American Prosecutor at this Tribunal in 1945, Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, was very clear on this point:

"Launching a war of aggression is a crime that no political or economic situation can justify ,"said Jackson... "If certain acts in violation of treaties are crimes, they are crimes whether the United States does them or Germany does them….. we are not prepared to lay down a rule of criminal conduct against others which we would not be willing to have invoked against us."

Fifty-seven years after Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson spoke these words, the United States is preparing to launch just such a war. When great powers defy international law in this way, a very great international instability results. Germany’s defiance led to World War II. The results of U.S. defiance, in this nuclear armed world, may be just as serious.

52. here's the email I just sent to CNN:
Condi Rice's statement "this war was brought to us" is proven to be a lie by the Downing Street Memo. The memo substantiates previous statements by former Bush Administration officials including Richard Clarke and O'Neill. It is proof that this Administration knew there was no connection between Iraq and 9/11 and that Saddam was no threat, but that the Administration "fixed" the intelligence.
The media and the American People need to hold Rice and the rest of the Administration accountable for repeatedly lying to our country.

58. I sent my letters to CNN, et al this morning
I took the innocent approach. That was before I heard about Rice's outrageous statement:

I have recently heard about a British memo that stated that President Bush decided to go to war in Iraq in the summer of 2002 and that he manipulated the intelligence to sell the case to the American public. I would be interested in hearing more about this memo and what's its implications are to America.

Thank you.

I can't stand it when they muddle the line between the 'war on terror' and the 'war on Iraq.' The sad part is that your average American joe can't see the difference either -- pointing to groups like "Al Qaeda in Iraq" and not realizing that they weren't even there when the war began.

:banghead: And the corporate media isn't helping by perpetuating this bull.
