It appears that Chimpy is trying to shift the balance of power
re: military bases.

The bases with the most jobs are to be concentrated in Texas, whereas there are still a couple of bases in Texas on the closing list.

Listening to Ed Schultz spell it out right now.

These people are past evil.

I'm in Georgia, and this state has two lap dogs who jump to Bush's whistle. He's even stabbing them in the back.

2. Yeah -- I heard about Lieberman's crying about this
as there's a huge base in Connecticut on the list.

How does he like his man-date now!??

15. Interesting -- wonder if my Puke relations are happy now
They voted for The Idiot -- then bragged about the pay raises they'd received and how well the military has fared under this jackass ... How's that workin' for ya, now folks?

18. geniuses indeed

They haven't caught on to how this oufit operates. Before cutting an organization down to the bone, they pump in a pile of money so all the top people can parachute out with a bundle.

As it is, the last bits of the Cold War are coming to an end. Every Iraq and every Libya and every North Korea that gives up its fight for midget post-Soviet imperialism means less rationale for a large, conventional, U.S. military. In the U.S. military winning now means the winners lose livelihoods.

Tell 'em to keep on winning warlets.

6. Catwoman, have you noticed that the base closings in GA
are being done in the metro Atlanta area, where all those nasty liberals live? Punishment for Shirley, no doubt.

I can't wait for this to bite them in the ass.

13. They are going to use these for leverage
to get what they want...Let them close them, get the our states to start recruiting other industries like energy alternatives etc. these would attract a better caliber of person anyway, since bases seem to be a concentration of red...

14. Texas was hit pretty hard in the '90's
losing Bergstrum AFB in Austin and Kelly AFB in San Antonio as well as several other smaller bases downsized or outright closed.

In reality, there really isn't a whole lot left in Texas to close.

Regarding San Antonio, I'm surprised Fort Sam Houston and Lackland AFB weren't hit harder if not closed. Same goes for Randolph AFB. But I don't think all of these together employ the number of people Kelly AFB did at it's peak.

16. Sheppard AFB?
Edited on Fri May-13-05 03:47 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
Wonder what Sheppard AFB got out of this? It is the lifeblood of Wichita Falls. Without it, there is only a corrupt healthcare industry to replace it, but I didn't see it on the closures list.

ON EDIT: I see, Sheppard loses 2,500 personnel and 150 or so civilian jobs. The city of Wichita Falls, TX just lost 2% of its population in a heartbeat.

They voted for republicans in overwhelming numbers in 2004. 68% of them or so deserve this. The rest, like us poor DU unfortunates, are only on this roller coaster; we certainly do not control it or deserve the ride were being taken for.
