Two, Count'em, TWO Good Signs in Local Letters to Editor
The first one sounds like a DUer. The one demanding the return of Mallard the Duck will likely go unheeded by the newspaper, since it is the ONLY demand on that topic and the paper has not done the bidding of SCORES of letters demanding that Molly IVINS be dropped.

What happened to terror alerts?

To the editor:

Where have all the terror alerts gone? Prior to the November presidential election, our government was issuing terror alerts all over the place. Since the election, how many terror alerts has our government issued? I wonder why??

Bring back Mallard Fillmore

To the editor:

What happened to the conservative comic strip Mallard Fillmore in the weekday paper? I notice you still run the leftist strip Doonesbury.

If your comic budget is tight, we can easily lose Pearls Before Swine or Get Fuzzy. Why don’t you drop one of them and bring Mallard Fillmore back?

1. Perfect response to number 2. . .
Because the cartoonist who draws Mallard Fillmore is a quack.

3. Mallard Fillmore sucks
NOt just cause it's a conservative strip - I'm willing to believe a Conservative can be quite funny. There is a theory that Conservatives might be even better at comedy than Democrats (while we are better at Drama). That said, Mallard Fillmore sucks.

4. Yeah - it's just not funny
There is no humor or subtleness in Mallard Fillmore.

The cartoonist is incapable of setting up situations or dialog that demonstrate his point. He merely hits you over the head with it.

While Doonesbury undoubtedly makes some conservative uncomfortable when they recognise themselves, Mallard Fillmore never makes me uncomfortable. None of his characters are recognisable as real.
