press inquiry re: FReeping online Polls!! CHECK THIS OUT!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/945381/posts

A reporter in Egypt wrote to the owner of freeperland asking for a reaction to the allegation that freeperland stuffs polls! This is what he wrote to the owner of freeperland:

Subject: Inquiry
Date: Sun, 13 Jul 2003 18:21:40 +0300
From: "AR H"
To: [email protected]

Dear Sir,

I am a reporter from Egypt and I am doing a chapter on the struggle between American Conservatives and Liberals on the internet during the recent war in Iraq. Your attempts, penned by you as "Freeping", has garnered a lot of criticism from some camps. In interest of getting all sides of the story, I would greatly appreciate if you answer my queries. I would be more thankful if you can respond as soon as possible. Here they are:

1- Allegations against "Freepers" comprised many things, in an attempt to over-ride conflicting view-points on the internet. You are accused of fixing online polls, flooding opponents' email servers, and flooding internet message boards to "drown out" other opinions. What is your response to these allegations?

2- To what extent do you believe you can expand on your personal freedom of speech in a way that can possibly impede the right of others' freedom of speech. Is it justifiable so long as you get your point across in a stronger fashion? I read in your "About" section that you're strongly supportive of freedom of speech, but how far will you go and do you believe that boundaries should be implemented?

3- The internet has proved, especially during the war, that it has become a medium of empowerment for people who are not affiliated to the official press. As your site declares: "We are the free press". Do you think this precedent will continue in the future and lead to a sort of "decentralization" of information? What will this lead to?

I would like to thank you in advance for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon. Regards,

Abdel-Rahman Hussein

1. Gee! I'm shocked this got posted over there...
Surely no one will respond (truthfully) to Mr. Hussein...ya think?

All the reporter has to do, though is follow that shitty board for a while to get the answers directly to his questions...

2. apparently they removed his email addy
Several freepers mention his generic email, but apparently Robinson removed it. I was thinking of writing to the guy and showing a whole bunch of threads I have bookmarked where freepers giggle about their skewing of polls through repeated hits.

On this thread today, none will admit to making repeated hits on a poll.

4. Just look at the number of posts
that say they disabled the cookies so they could vote more than once.

Freedom of speech is OK for us, but not for "them.": motto of FReepers.

5. I think he alread has. But he wants a statement from the owner,
and the owner is too cowardly to give him one. So he tosses it out to "freepers" in hopes that THEY will answer it.

3. First of all...the term 'Freeped' poll says everything!
I love their attempt to disuade...they never wonder where the term 'freeped' comes from. Wonder why? :bounce:

notice this comment somewhere down the thread:

To: Jim Robinson

Sad to say, all I can suggest is to reinstate TLBSHOW long enough for him to answer these questions...hehehe.

Do I read that to suggest that ole TLBSHOW got yanked from over there?

He was a regular over there (posted enough that in my infrequent forays to read - he would often appear) and of Capital Grilling. Used to get in some real spats over on CG with some duers.

9. He got kicked off of FR. The gossip club--
Edited on Sun Jul-13-03 03:17 PM by janx
the women who fawn and drool over photos of Bush in running shorts--got him kicked off after he started criticizing their savior. I kid you not. He still posts on CG, however. By the way, the group of housewives responsible for his ousting now have another target: a young female student who is publishing columns in a fairly mainstream, online, conservative publication. The young student seems bright, decent, and fairly open-minded for a freeper. But they detest her and viciously gang up on her at every opportunity.

Edit: for the real example of what happens, see

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/944966/posts

It's worth the read.

11. whoah...
TLBSHOW was critical of Bush? Or at least TOO critical for them? The times I read him he was pretty kneejerk in his defense of all rationales promoted by Rush.

14. Anything even perceived as anti-Chimpy is reason for
the Harpies to attack. It is vicious and hateful. That board is totally out of control. Read the thread I linked starting at about post 50 or 51. One woman blows the whistle and they all pile on!

10. I like this post. "Peach" steps in to Defend Her President:
To: Aeronaut

The mainstream press has consistently been caught misquoting the president and members of his administration. Through the power of the internet, Freepers and other seekers of the truth are easily able to find the exact quotes and counteract the results of the left leaning media.

The power of the internet has a negative influence on the left leaning media and politicians because they have been caught so easily and so often telling lies. The power of the internet has made is easier to spread the truth about the lies the media and politicians are telling us.

There are 100's of examples Freepers could give you but I will give you one. The DNC and other leftists are saying the president lied in his State of the Union address. Those people are constantly misquoting the president as saying that Saddam has attempted to purchase uranium. What the president actually said was that British intelligence tells us that Saddam is attempting to purchase uranium. Big difference. Before the internet, one had to go to the library to see if one's recollection of the truth of a matter was correct or not.

Bottom line - liars beware the power of the internet.

What big difference? Why'd he tell us what the Brits told him, hmmm? Just 'cause it was interesting gossip?

13. Oh yeah. Every freeper's doing it! But look at this post:
To: Jim Robinson

Mr. Abdel-Rahman Hussein, If you care to read a few books on American special interest actions I believe that you will find the practice that you refer to as "freeping" predated the internet by several decades. Special interests lobbys used fax machines, even snail mail (US Postal Service) long before the computer became common. "Action Alerts"(appeals to membership to take certain actions) are and have been common in this democracy. Both Democrats and Republicans, NRA and NOW seek to influence the powers that be. It is a practice that is as American as Apple and Microsoft.

This freeper asserts that ballot box stuffing is nothing new! It's as American as apple pie!

15. Let's consult the FReeper Dictionary.
The Freeper Dictionary:

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/862546/posts

FReep - a coined verb that usually means a FReeper or FReepers protesting someone or something in person. It is also used to describe a mass emailing or online participation - "FReep an internet poll"

Nah...they would never do a mass e-mailing or Freep an internet poll. Not them...!

I'm signed up, too. Though Kucinich is my personal choice, I've decided to bow to Hugh Hewitt's request and vote for Dean so as to help form a solid voting block.

This is not a FReeping opportunity - this is lunacy! These people are COMMUNISTS!

THINK ABOUT IT ...!!

DO YOU REALLY WANT YOUR NAME ON A LIST ASSOCIATED WITH A COMMUNIST ORGANIZATION ...??

HOW WILL YOU EXPLAIN THIS WHEN THE DOJ OR THE FBI COME CALLING AND ASKING YOU QUESTIONS AND POKING INTO YOUR PRIVATE AFFAIRS ...??
