Mainsleaze media will report news favorable to Republicans
and mention almost in passing news unfavorable to Republicans.
They do the exact opposite when it comes to Democrats.

When something negative towards Democrats is inserted into the newsflow, they will do talk show after talk show after talk show on it for weeks on end. The Smearboaters and their pack of lying liars, with no credibility, and all evidence to the contrary, got free rein to spew their bile. Inferences, innuendo, made up facts get played ad nauseum. When Georgie's ANG favoritism and subsequent desertion came up, well, they need hard and fast, irrefutable evidence for that kind of thing, and they're not going to look for it or talk about it until it magically appears. Compare Chandra Levy with Joe Scarborough. On the one hand there was no ceiling to their interest. On the other there was absolutely no interest whatsoever.

There will always be sharks or Janet Jacksons or Robert Blakes or floods or Paula Abduls or Michael Jacksons to take the heat off of Repubs when the going gets rough. There will always be stories in this world to divert attention from right-wing treachery. 9/11 negligence, CIA outings, phony war justifications, stolen elections, massive debt buildup get cursory coverage while they segue into specious topics 'that people are more interested in' than horrendous assaults on the middle class like the elimination of bankruptcy protection.

And there will always be enough time to spend on damage to any Dem, no matter if they have to beat it into the ground with half-truths and demagoguery over hundreds of hours of talk shows.

That's the way it is and the way it has been since forever. Watergate was an absolute aberration, thirty years ago. Republican slime like Tom Delay practically have to put a gun to a lobbyist's head for illegal campaign contributions before it is even mentioned.

Two nights ago CBS, now cowed and mewling for right-wing appreciation, had a story on Delay and the spread of Texas corruption via Republican lobbyist Jack Abramson, who extorted millions of dollars out of American Indian interests he threatened with phony Texas gambling legalization, sneering about how stupid his marks are. Gloria Borger, probably the biggest bimbo in news outside of Wolf Blitzer, sorted it all out with a smirk on her face: (sleazy) Democratic Congressmen are running scared about their unethical behavior in this game which, by inference, is merely Democrats playing politics when they're just as bad. That was her take on Abramson and Delay. If you think there is some story that is going to force their honesty, think again.

The mainsleaze media is America's greatest threat. Terrorism isn't even a mild concern in comparison. In fact, terrorism happened in large part because they didn't do anything even approaching their journalistic responsibilities, and they still don't. I don't think they ever will either.

1. Its like Greg Palast says, you have the headline story in the London Dalies
concerning the fix and setup Bush & Blair did to con everyone on the Iraq War & the US Media is going on and on about the runaway bride.

However, I am at least starting to hear at work from people I would not expect talking about how lame the US Media is. So I have to say it may not be waking people up soon enough but at least there are signs that people are really getting a clue that the US Media is a sad example for news.

Actually it seems that more and more are looking to the internet for news, blogs are coming on stronger all the time. People are trusting those sources more than the mainstream press.

2. Once progressives wake up and leave them
they'll have nothing.

Republicans don't want news, they want self-serving rationalizations and propaganda, and they'll get it only from the most extremely insular source they can find. Unless CNN wants to go FARTHER right than faux news, they'll get none of their viewership.

In the process they'll alienate everybody who wants an honest, progressive perspective of the world, until nobody watches them at all. In the end I have no doubt they'll be dumbfounded at their predicament. By then it will be too late.
