Now this just takes the cake.
I'm in this neighborhood convenience store buying something. A man about my age (50s) and a younger man who walked with a terrible limp were in front of me at the checkout. They leave and I talk to the cashier a minute (Braves baseball I think). Then he tells the sad story about the two men in front of me. The father gets the pink slip from his job, and then the son comes home from Iraq with a torn up leg. They were in there looking for work.

I leave the store and I'm right behind their car waiting for traffic to clear. Guess what folks? Yep, there was a black W sticker in each corner of the rear window. It gets worse. There was Bush/Cheney sticker on the bumper along with, now this is sad, a sticker saying "American By Birth, Union By Choice". These poor people just can't connect the dots. One man is out of work, his son is disfigured for life, and the man that caused it all is their hero.

Now I've seen the Bush stickers on the back of cars with disabled veterans tags, but what I saw yesterday takes the cake, first place, the trophy, whatever you want to call it!

2. you have to understand he's the last action hero
a Texan, a man who fights for the little guy, gives them a break with a tax cut, who doesn't use big words

They're holding on to the image, it's all they have

By the way is your handle from the movie "Harvey"

didn't he say, I struggled with reality for many years and I have finally triumphed over it.

12. Yep, it was something like that.
That was a great old movie. Another old Jimmy Stewart movie I liked was "You Can't Take It With You". Then there was "Mr Smith Goes To Washington" and there........hell, we could be here all night talking about classic Jimmy Stewart movies.

All that keeps me sane sometimes--that and DU!

3. wow
What's scary is that one day these two may actually connect the dots and go completely apeshit.

Still, I respect the guy who came back from Iraq. He believes in Bush and was willing to fight his war, which is more than most cowardly young GOP supporters will do.

4. THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED
I'm sure there is a liberal out there who will still have compassion for these folks.

I'm just not going to be that person.

6. I too am finding it harder and harder to muster up sympathy
I see a lot of this kind of stuff where I live, a die-hard, red area of FL. In fact, the local repubs bragged about "delivering" this area to Bush on election day.

I see dilapidated houses with Bsuh/Cheney shit in front of them all the time. It's sad, but there you go.

17. The repukes dangled the old tired line of the Dems
taking your guns away and add in a little Gay Marriage scare and these folks would vote for Satan (which they did IMO). It's really sad what turned this election in *'s favor.

10. Now that you mention it, I'm not going to be that person either.
The ONLY thing that will wake these people up is when enough of them start to personally experience the consequences of their actions. As I said right after the election--I don't want them to feel *MY* pain. I want them to feel their OWN pain! Of course, the human capacity for denial and self-deception seems endless so even that might not do it, but it's absolutely the only thing that stands a chance.

If one mor conservative manager tells me I can't have a job since I attended high school and college in a godless state, I'll smack the fool. They voted for ignorance and may they live with it forever.

7. No sympathy here
Maybe someday they'll turn down good jobs offered to them by some homosexual couple that wants to get married someday.

Chewed up, spat out, and still humping the leg.

22. I hope you read the last paragraph
"Even if you do everything right, they?ll hit you anyway. Look at the poor souls who voted for this nonsense. They are working for six dollars an hour if they are working at all, their children are dying overseas and suffering from lack of health care and a depleted environment and a shoddy education. And they don?t even know they are being hit."

15. Don't mean to sound too cynical here,
but "my give a damn's busted".

I have absolutely no sympathy for these fools that voted for B/C last year.

I'll reserve my sympathy for people who voted for K/E. At least they recognized what was going on and tried to do something about it.

Gee, did the kid got a Purple Heart for his leg injury? I wonder if he really deserved it :sarcasm:?

20. Just a self-inflicted wound he faked (sarcasm re: Kerry)
Actually, I feel bad for the poor wounded sucker. But only for a second or two. We still live in a country of Freedom of Choice. This time the choice might be to hightail it out to another country to avoid sacrificing yourself for a liar's war and a bloodthirsty need for profit on the backs of the working class. I don't support any troop in Iraq. You have a choice, make the one that's right or end up chewed up and spat out. Wise up, young people. The "for us or against us" rhetoric just doesn't cut it.

21. here's one I saw: Bumper covered with "United we Stand" stickers
"Stand Together" "America United" etc. all with flags.

Below those was a lone mudflap (other one missing) On the mudflap is a scowling Yosemite Sam, with his six guns out. "Back Off!" it says!

LOL

Nothing like GOP consistency!

I feel sorry for those two in the 7/11. What a shock for them! Hope it wakes them up...though some are incapable, apparently.
